Chinese Black Tea Promotes Fat Loss . Black tea got its name because the tea leaves turn black during the oxidation process that develops new flavonoids. In lab mice, oolong, black and pu-erh teas -- especially black tea -- promoted weight loss and significantly decreased visceral fat

These weight - loss tea leaves are partially oxidized ( black teas , for instance, are fully oxidized), lending a smooth, but bold taste to the brew. (Besides this weight - loss tea , we bet you didn’t know these essential oils promote weight loss , too!)

However, new research now suggests that the key to shedding a few pounds is actually pretty simple, and incredibly British.

Researchers from the University of California have found that drinking black tea – specifically the nation's favourite English Breakfast blend – might promote weight loss and speed up metabolism.

In addition to weight loss , black tea benefits blood sugar levels according to a recent study. Various studies have shown that oolong tea can promote weight loss by improving the fat burning process and speeding up metabolism.

UCLA researchers have demonstrated for the first time that black tea may promote weight loss and other health benefits by changing bacteria in the gut. In a study of mice, the scientists showed that black tea alters energy metabolism in the liver by changing gut metabolites.

The study

Scientists divided mice into four groups depending on their diet – low-fat, high-sugar; high-fat, high-sugar; high-fat, high-sugar and green tea extract; high-fat, high-sugar and black tea extract. The mice then had their weight measured over a four week period.

It was discovered that, by the end of the study, the mice who'd been given the tea extracts had lost the same amount of weight as those put on the low-fat diet. In addition, mice that were provided with black tea extract had also developed an increased amount of Pseudobutyrivibrio (a type of bacteria that targets the metabolism) in their system. This is the first time that black tea has been put on an equal footing with green tea when it comes to gut health. Lead author and human nutrition professor Susanne Henning said:

Doing this one simple thing everyday could help you lose weight

Doing this one simple thing everyday could help you lose weight You might have been advised to totally avoid scales if you’re trying to lose weight. And while that’s sound advice for anyone focusing too much on pounds lost, or easily unmotivated by what they see - there might be good reason to not only keep the scales, but to weigh yourself every day. And while that’s sound advice for anyone focusing too much on pounds lost, or easily unmotivated by what they see - there might be good reason to not only keep the scales, but to weigh yourself every day.

Case in point: A just-released animal study published in the European Journal of Nutrition found that, by lowering levels of obesity- promoting bacteria in the gut while also increasing the number of lean mass-supporting bacteria, black tea may promote healthy weight loss .

Could a daily cup of tea get you closer to your weight - loss goals? Hundreds of varieties exist, from white to black and green to oolong. They all naturally have high amounts of health- promoting substances called flavonoids.

"It was known that green tea polyphenols are more effective and offer more health benefits than black tea polyphenols since green tea chemicals are absorbed into the blood and tissue."

She added: "Our new findings suggest that black tea, through a specific mechanism through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans. For black tea lovers, there may be a new reason to keep drinking it."

However, it must be noted that black tea refers to tea without milk – bad news if you're a milky brew lover. It's also important to remember that although these findings *might* carry implications for human weight loss but mice are very different to us, and the only sure-fire way to lose weight is through exercise and a healthy, balanced diet.
