The idea that cardio should be done at the beginning of a workout to warm up your muscles is apparently a myth.

That is, according to Max Lowery, a personal trainer and founder of the 2 Meal Day intermittent fasting plan, who is adamant that people should be doing the opposite.

"It's a huge mistake doing your cardio and exhausting yourself before you do weights," Lowery said. "If you want the weight session to be 100% effective, you need to be fresh."

Which would explain why most cardio rooms will be packed to the rafters while the weight room will be all but bare. Why ? Well, as I mentioned before , popular media has distorted our perceptions of cardio and weight training . Let me ask you something.

"Cardio will deplete your muscle glycogen stores which is essentially your stored energy for explosive activity," he added. "This means your strength and weight training will be much less effective."

Lowery said that when it comes to weight lifting, form is the most important thing you need to master.

If you're tired before you even begin a weight session, you'll feel the exercise in all the wrong places, making injury more likely.

"Long steady state cardio is one of the worst ways to transform your physique," he went on.

"Cardio — aerobic exercise — is great for health reasons, and you will burn calories while doing it. But your biggest concern when you’re trying to lose weight is muscle loss.

"If you lose fat and muscle along with it, it becomes harder to keep the weight off in the long run. That’s because the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism is."

8 facts a PT wants you to know about HIIT training From how many calories it burns to the potential downsides.High intensity interval training, also known as HIIT, has become incredibly popular in the fitness world. A HIIT session alternates between periods of fast paced, or "high intensity", all-out exercise, followed by low intensity movements or rest periods. HIIT normally follows a circuit style format, which keeps your muscles engaged throughout the entire workout.

Should I continue doing cardio before lifting , or should I switch it up? Let me explain . What you decide to do first is strictly based off your personal goals. Cardio should always be an important staple to everyone’s life, no matter what your goals are.

Pingback: Why High-Intensity Interval Training Almost Always Beats Steady-State Cardio for Fat Loss and Hmm wouldn’t matter but personally I would have a scoop of whey after lifting and before the cardio . I do a mix of weights , body weight training , crossfit style training and hiit cardio .

If you want to see real results in your body, weights are the only way forward, according to Lowery, and most other personal trainers out there. "Lifting weights is a far more effective way to sculpt the body," he said.

Anaerobic activities, such as weight training and sprinting, are most effective for building lean muscle mass, which will increase your metabolism and decrease fat.

"The ‘strong, not skinny’ movement is slowly changing the misconception people have that just by looking at a dumbbell, they will turn into the Hulk.

"To get the toned look most of my female clients aspire to, you need to build muscle and the best way to do this is to lift weights."

This Trainer's Cardio Workout For Victoria's Secret Models Is Totally Doable .
Boxing, jump rope, LISS: we hear different accounts about the kind of cardio that Victoria's Secret models do, but we don't know what to believe. "When it comes to straight-up cardio in the traditional sense, I'm a fan of fast walking mixed with high-intensity bursts of sprints," Michael told POPSUGAR. That's right - nothing fancy here. Just some brisk walking with a few sprints tossed into the mix. What exactly do those bursts look like, though? "Say a few 100-yard dashes mixed into a two-mile walk or jog," he described.
