The actress and comedian revealed that she experienced memory issues, as well as physical symptoms.

When asked what advice she would give to other women going through the menopause, Dawn told Prima: 'You have to surrender to it. I found it was a thief of my memory, so I had to write lists to remember stuff – I still do!'

Chatting about her physical symptoms, Dawn opened up about her hysterectomy. 'Physically, I found it a challenge – my womb was a mess so it had to go,' she said.

Dawn French has revealed how the menopause ‘robbed’ her of her memory so she has to rely on writing out lists. The comedian, 60, went through the menopause in her early 50s before having a hysterectomy. ‘Physically I found it a challenge – my womb was a mess, so it had to go .

She continued: 'But the main thing is you can't pretend it's not happening; accept it and, if you need help, go and get it.

Urging women to get treatment, Dawn added: 'Lots of my friends are on HRT patches or pills, and there's so much out there to assist you.'

But, encouraging women to remain positive, she said: 'I promise that afterwards, there's life and it's all fine.

'I think you can decide how you are with any experience and how you are with any experience and how you look at things.

'There's a poem by American poet Jane Hirshfield that goes:

I moved my chair into sun

I sat in the sun

The way hunger is moved when

called fasting.

'I live my life by that now and make the decision to have a different mindset about things if I need to,' she added.

'You can apply that to the menopause or other tricky times of life; you think of the positives and move your chair into the sun.'

Kate is among several other celebrities who have opened up about going through early menopause , including those like Angelina Jolie that were thrust into the Dawn French says she felt 'robbed of her memory' during the menopause as she talks about her hysterectomy at 54 Now relies on lists.
