The former Blue Peter host lost Gemma to an aggressive form of cancer just three days after she was diagnosed with the killer disease.

In his latest tribute, Simon posted an Instagram photo of Gemma walking hand in hand with their eight-year-old son Ethan.

He also shared his son's heartbreaking portrait of the mum under the caption 'Best mum ever'.

Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas says his young son has made a heartbreaking Christmas wish following his wife ' s sudden death from an aggressive cancer that attacks white blood cells.

Simon has paid tribute to his wife in a series of photos on social media.

One showed the family holding hands against a sunset with the caption: 'Team Thomas. Three has become two. Heartbroken and suffocating with grief.'

Simon, who presents Premier League football for Sky Sports, told Mirror Online on November 25: 'She felt very unwell last weekend and we took her to the doctor's three times, but three times they didn't seem concerned.

'They just said to rest, but on Monday we took her to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

'After lots of tests they diagnosed her with blood cancer but they didn't know what.

'A few hours later we were rushed to Churchill Hospital in Oxford, to specialists. They are an incredible team.

'We knew that we were in one of the very best places in the country.'

Simon tearfully said his wife underwent treatment there immediately and was hooked up to a machine which takes white blood cells out of her body to lower cell counts.

Simon, a former Blue Peter and BBC presenter said: 'For the first couple of days she was responding well, but yesterday morning she went downhill very quickly. She had bleeding on the brain.

'I was told yesterday morning she would be gone in a few hours.'

Family were then given time to spend with her at her bedside.

Simon, who lives in Caversham, Berkshire, said: 'My little boy had a little time with her but she wasn't able to speak to him. She passed away just before 6pm last night.

'There was a real sense of peace. Today is the hardest pain I have ever felt ever.'

Simon said he isn't placing blame on the doctors who initially saw his wife before she was taken to hospital.

But he has encouraged people to seek a diagnosis from medics if they continue to feel unwell.

Grieving Simon revealed Gemma had lost her battle to acute myeloid leukaemia on Friday, saying he was "crushed with indescribable pain". Simon told Mirror Online that the couple' s son had made a heartbreaking Christmas wish to have his mum back.

He said: 'I would say, I'm not blaming our doctors here. I would say if you're worried about something and you're not getting an answer from your doctor, push.

'Three times we went. We were even told Monday morning to try some different pills and rest.

'Twelve hours later she was being diagnosed with blood cancer. You have to push them.'

Mr Thomas said his wife celebrated her 40th birthday during a garden party last May.

They had been married since 2005 and began dating in 2001 after meeting at a party held by their boss.

Simon said: 'She was working there then. We met at a boss' party. Our eyes met, and that was it.'

For years, Mrs Thomas was actively involved with charities and helping people in need.

In 2015, she and her husband launched a campaign to give child refugees basic essentials including clothing and toiletries, and gifts including colouring books and toys.
