Changes to Formula E's fastest lap award goes too far

Changes to Formula E's fastest lap award goes too far To win the “Visa Fastest Lap Award” drivers will no longer have to set the fastest lap of the race. A driver could actually set the 11th fastest lap of the race, but still be given the award, and the point that goes with it. That’s because only those that finish inside the top 10 will be eligible for the award. It’s been more than a year since Sebastien Buemi and Lucas Di Grassi spent the final London ePrix diving in and out of the pits, trying to avoid the race as they battled for fastest lap and the crucial two points that would decide the championship. The pair are not the only drivers to have abandoned a race to focus on taking points for the fastest lap, and Formula E organisers have tweaked the rules to stop drivers “sacrificing their ability to complete the race” by fighting for fastest lap. Only, instead of only ruling out people who abandon the race, organisers have decided nobody outside the top 10 should be able to claim the award, even if they set the fastest lap of the race whilst striving to finish as high up as possible. The new tweak to the fastest lap rule goes too far. There are any number of ways a driver who finishes outside the regular points scoring positions could set the fastest lap of the race. a driver could set the fastest lap in the first stint, only to drop to the back of the field with a poor pit stop and finish further down the order.

The 'Cosmic Girl' star, who has already undergone two operations on his spine, has been out of action after he was forced to cancel several UK tour dates (rescheduled for December) earlier in the year, due to a spinal injury, so it no doubt comes as a nice surprise for the 'Virtual Insanity' hitmaker.

The event will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O'Neill and Brandon Bakshi, BMI's Executive Director, Creative for Europe & Asia

Bakshi added: "Jay Kay's extraordinary creativity has carved a prolific career spanning not only three decades, but also multiple genres. As a dynamic and mesmerising performer he has entertained millions across the globe whilst continuing to add to his exceptionally diverse catalogue. We are extremely proud to award Jay Kay the BMI President's Award for his originality which has inspired generations of musicians and fans alike."

Together with his bandmates, the singer has had Grammys, Ivor Novellos, MTV Awards, and 13 BRIT Award nominations during a career spanning more than two decades.

Jamiroquai's greatest hits album 'High Times: Singles 1992-2006' went double platinum in the UK alone.

Kyle Walker-Peters nominated for Golden Boy award .
Tottenham Hotspur have a very promising contingent of young players, which has today been underlined by Kyle Walker-Peters’ inclusion on the shortlist for the Golden Boy award. The promising young full-back has made just one appearance for Spurs but has caught the eye of the judging panel for this year’s edition of the prestigious award. Among those registering votes on the winner are German newspaper Bild, Italian outlet Tuttosport, Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (who have published the full shortlist here) and UK newspaper The Times. The award is given to the under-21 player who has most impressed in Europe’s top leagues in a calendar year. All of the previous winners are certainly notable, and include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Paul Pogba and most recently, Swansea’s on-loan midfielder Renato Sanches. Walker-Peters is certainly a long-shot for the award given his lack of game time, but it’s a step in the right direction for the youngster, and will give him great encouragement when he is next called upon by Mauricio Pochettino. No Spurs player has ever won the award, but White Hart Lane favourite Rafael van der Vaart was the inaugural winner back in 2003, when he was playing for Ajax.
