ITV News bosses have reportedly apologised to reality TV star Ferne McCann after using a photograph of her baby girl to illustrate a story about cot death.

Former The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) cast member Ferne was said to be ‘shocked and upset’ when she discovered that an image of her baby daughter, Sunday, had appeared alongside the story on a lunchtime news segment.

Ferne, 27, is believed to immediately have contacted the station and requested that they remove the picture of her four-month-old baby girl.

The photo in question had been uploaded to Instagram by Ferne when she announced her daughter’s birth in early November.

At the time the new mum wrote, ‘Welcome to the world my darling. Didn’t expect to see you a week early. I’m so in love & bursting with pride. It’s a girl.’

Baby Sunday’s face was not visible in the picture, however it showed her hands and the white onesie she was wearing which had a crown on the front.

It is believed that during the broadcast, the image was cropped to show the baby’s hands.

A source close to Ferne told The Sun, ‘Any mother would be upset to learn an image of their child had been used without consent.

‘What makes it even worse was that it was used in connection with such an upsetting and tragic topic.’

A spokesperson for ITV told the publication, ‘ITV News took swift action as soon as we were notified by Ferne’s team of the error. We’re sorry if any upset was caused.’

The photo blunder is the latest challenge Fern has faced as a single mother, after Sunday’s father Arthur Collins was arrested for his part in an acid attack last year.

Collins was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the November 2017 attack in a London night club.

He was convicted of five counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and nine counts of actual bodily harm against 14 people.
