Ewan McGregor will star in Doctor Sleep, the sequel to Stephen King's The Shining . McGregor will play the adult Danny Torrence , still haunted by the events that happened at the Overlook Hotel.

Almost 40 years after Stanley Kubrick’s famous adaptation of The Shining reached cinemas and the sequel , Doctor Sleep, has been announced. Adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name, Variety reports that Ewan McGregor will play Danny Torrance, the son 14/25 A Star Is Born.

Based on the Stephen King novel ‘Doctor Sleep’, the Warner Bros. project is helmed by director Mike Flanagan, who brought King’s novella Gerald’s Game to Netflix last year. A prequel to The Shining is also in the works, thanks the runaway success of 2017’s It.

He worries that he is becoming a reflection of his murderous, alcohol-dependant father, but reconnects with his “shining” powers after a sober turn.

He starts to connect with a dying girl at a hospice, when he sees that she shares his supernatural abilities. They soon find that their power grows if they inhale the “steam” that comes off other gifted people when they are suffering painful deaths.

Child actor Danny Lloyd originally played Danny Torrence in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror classic, alongside Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. It was initially a box office disappointment, but earned worldwide critical acclaim over time.
