Allardyce: We don't need John Terry

Allardyce: We don't need John Terry Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Chelsea defender John Terry but Eagles boss Sam Allardyce has ruled that out as he thinks that he has enough quality central defenders at the club. Terry reportedly wants to stay in his family home in the Surrey area and as such, a move to Palace would have made sense for him but it looks like he’ll have to find himself somewhere else to play next year. The Chelsea captain has already announced that he’ll be leaving his boyhood club at the end of the season and that he wants to continue playing, but it looks like that won’t be at Selhurst Park. Allardyce was asked about the possibility of signing the former England skipper, and as reported in the Daily Mail, he seemingly ruled out a move for him: “I’ve got Scott Dann, James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho, Damien Delaney and Martin Kelly, so actually in central defence we’re looking pretty secure. I’m not sure if that’s going to be a position we’ll look at if and when we’re safe andd hopefully we are safe by the end of the season, but that position looks pretty healthy from the number of the players we have. I’m not so sure that John, yes, fantastic player that he is, yes, he’d do us a great job, but with those amount of centre-halves at the club, I can’t see that happening.

Chelsea are still some way from completing any prospective deal for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, the player’s agent has revealed, with the London club still not having made direct contact.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Palmieri had been identified as a potential target by Antonio Conte, as the club look for another left sided wing-back to compete with Marcos Alonso next season –  although the details of the chase were not revealed.

Speaking to Calcio Mercato, Fernando Garcia (Palmieri’s agent) said that “with Chelsea we have nothing concrete, only middlemen contacts.”

Arriving in the Italian capital from Brazilian side Santos in the summer, Palmieri has impressed a number of top sides across the continent, including Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. He has even drawn attention from the FIGC (Italian Football Federation), due to his Italian passport and potential Italy national side credentials.

Roma only signed Palmieri for €2million (£1.6million) in December, but Roma would certainly demand a much larger fee after his impressive debut season in Europe.
