Saints target Seri rules out summer move

Saints target Seri rules out summer move Southampton have been linked with a move for OGC Nice midfielder Jean Seri for some time now, but it doesn’t look as though the Ivorian will be leaving for new things any time soon. The effervescent midfielder discussed his future with French media outlet Nice Matin, as cited by GFFN, and insisted that his future is with Lucien Favre’s side. “Leave this summer? No. I had a good first season, I needed to follow it up, which I have done. A player who wants to leave after a great season is not a great player. One must repeat that performance several seasons in a row. So there is no reason for me to think about leaving.” Saints, who are also joined by Leicester in their pursuit of Seri, were claimed to have made contact with Nice over a potential summer move just yesterday, but it looks as though any chance of signing him could now be dead in the water. Seri has been superb for Nice this season, proving to be a key cog in the Ligue 1 outfit’s team, and the amount of interest in him is somewhat unsurprising. “I feel good here, I am enjoying myself. I am not interested in leaving. The club is growing, the new training centre is coming, there are still many beautiful things to experience here.” However, it’s not looking as though he’s keen to leave Nice just yet and that means Saints may need to look elsewhere.

Southampton have reportedly stepped up their chase to sign OGC Nice midfielder Jean Seri, and have ‘made contact’ with the French club over a potential transfer.

According to a report from French news outlet RMC Sport today, Saints are joined by Leicester in their interest for Seri’s signature this summer and could make a move for the midfielder this summer.

The report states that Seri has a release clause included in his current deal with Nice worth up to €40 million, but it’s inevitably likely that he wouldn’t cost anywhere near as much if he is to move on.

However, RMC believe that Nice are set to open negotiations with the central midfielder over a new contract at the club, amid fears that the Premier League’s allure could prove to be too much for the Ivorian to refuse.

Seri has been in superb form for Nice this season and was linked with Saints just a few weeks ago.
