Antonio Conte believes Chelsea have a tough task ahead of them in finding a replacement for departing captain John Terry.

It was announced on Monday that Terry, who made his senior Chelsea debut in 1998 having come through the club's youth system, is to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Having won four Premier League titles, a Champions League and numerous other cup competitions during his Blues career, Conte acknowledges that Terry will be a big miss for Chelsea.

"It is not easy, because don't forget that, this season, some players [who have left] have been very important for this team," Conte told a pre-match news conference ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham.

"They brought a lot of history to this club and I'm talking about [Branislav] Ivanovic, [John-Obi] Mikel and, next season, also John.

"It's not easy to find the right replacement and it's for this reason that I continue to speak about how we have to build something important, to replace players that have been here for many years. They achieved a lot of great results for this club.

"Now we have to find, together, the new players to replace these great players and write the history for this great club and I hope everyone understands this."

Gus Poyet: John Terry could make a move to China .
With John Terry set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires, there’s been a lot of talk about what the club legend plans on doing next. There have been reports that he could stay in the Premier League with both West Brom and West Ham linked in recent weeks with a free transfer move for Terry while moving abroad remains an option as well. Ex-Blue Gus Poyet, now manager of Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, believes that the former England captain could make a lucrative move to China in the summer. “It is a great opportunity for him and for all the teams here (in China), including us. The latest change of the quantity of foreigners on the pitch stops some clubs from bringing in defenders, but we are talking about a special one. “It is a great possibility that China will be one of the possible situations for John Terry in the future. “It is a very difficult decision whether to stay in England or go abroad. I would like him not to play in the Premier League for another club – maybe I’m a little bit selfish.” Terry came off the bench during last night’s 4-2 win over Southampton to make his 714th appearance for Chelsea, but just his 11th this season and it’s clear that Antonio Conte, while he values Terry’s experience and leadership, wants to go with other options at the heart of his defence.
