It would take a crazy offer for Sporting to sell Carvalho

It would take a crazy offer for Sporting to sell Carvalho Last summer, West Brom saw a club record bid rejected by Sporting for midfielder William Carvalho as they looked to beef up their midfield. One year on, and they’re still keen on bringing the combative midfielder to the Hawthorns at the right price. Tony Pulis will be given a sizeable transfer budget to work with after the Baggies’ terrific season which could very much see them secure a top eight finish, and he will test the water again for Carvalho. The Euro 2016 winner is being targeted by a number of clubs but the Liga NOS outfit are adamant that he won’t be off on the cheap. Club president Bruno Carvalho has stated that it would take crazy offers for him to consider selling the midfielder, along with their other sought-after stars. “40 million offers? No president can say that they are not appealing. All I can do is confirm that I do not have the need to sell at this time. However, if I receive a crazy offer, I will accept. If I have a good offer, and the willingness of the player, we’ll see.” While the Premier League does perhaps give West Brom a financial advantage over some clubs around Europe, that price-tag would surely be out of the club’s price range.

It works!

Nacho Monreal sparked chaotic scenes at the Emirates Stadium when his 40-yard back pass almost gifted Sunderland the lead against Arsenal.

With the scores level at 0-0 shortly after half-time, the Arsenal defender turned and played the ball back towards his own goal from midway inside his own half.

But Petr Cech was off his line and had to scamper back and dive to push the ball away from goal with his fingertips.

The referee then awarded Sunderland a corner - only to change his mind and award an indirect free-kick from six yards for a deliberate back pass.

With the whole of the Arsenal team defending the goal mouth, Seb Larsson produced a cheeky chip into the middle, which Granit Xhaka headed over for a corner.
