Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia's status for a three-game series against the Royals will be determined Monday in Kansas City, the Boston Globe reported.

Pedroia was cleared to travel with the team in the wee hours Monday morning following a visit to the hospital in Houston after he was hit in the back by a pitch in Sunday's game against the Astros and subsequently experienced swelling and trouble moving his left arm.

After the Red Sox's 6-5 win over the Astros, John Farrell told reporters the swelling limited Pedroia's range of motion.

Some fears were seemingly put to rest for Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia after an X-ray on his wrist came back clean, as Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald was among those to report.

"The pitch hit in the left lat area, left rib cage. It continued to swell and tighten up," Farrell said (via ESPN). "He was losing a lot of range of motion with the left arm, so we had to get him off his feet."

After Pedroia's exit from the game, Josh Rutledge moved from third base to second and Pablo Sandoval came in to play third. That's likely the move Farrell would make if Pedroia can't go Monday.

With Sunday's win and the Yankees' loss in Oakland, the Red Sox moved into a virtual tie for first place in the AL East. Boston (39-30) trails New York (38-20) by .002.
