Newcastle target edging closer to West Brom move

Newcastle target edging closer to West Brom move Newcastle’s interest in Jay Rodriguez has been well reported over the last few months, but it looks as though West Brom are in pole position to land the Southampton man. According to Sky Sports, the Baggies have jumped ahead in the race to sign the out of favour striker this summer, which could spell the end of Newcastle’s interest. Twitter: BREAKING: @WBA in talks with @SouthamptonFC over move for @JayRodriguez9 – Sky sources. #SSNHQ (@SkySportsNewsHQ) Rodriguez is all but set for a departure from St Mary’s this summer having inconsistently featured last season, and it appears as though a move back up north is attractive for the player. However, with West Brom keen to land Rodriguez for a fee of around £12m, it looks as though they are the emerging front-runners. Saints are claimed by reports to be keen on taking £15m from the sale of Rodriguez, but it’s unlikely that such a price will be coughed up for a player who failed to impose himself last season. Newcastle may need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

And more good news today is that we are being linked with a strong move for Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar, with the news Newcastle are in advanced talks for the 25 year-old 57 times capped Cameroon International (17 goals).

Newly-promoted Newcastle are reportedly in advanced talks with Porto, in a deal that would see Cameroon forward Vincent Aboubakar join the North-East side.

The Magpies are said to have wanted Aboubakar back in 2014 but their bid to sign him failed, and now this could be their moment.

It is also reported by Futbol Arena that Turkish champions Besiktas hold strong interest in the player, however their chances of signing him have been dashed, as Newcastle have entered into advanced talks with the 25-year-old.

The Cameroon talisman actually spent last season on-loan in Turkey with Besiktas, helping them win another league title by netting 17 goals in all competitions.

He also scored the winner for Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations final, and will represent the African side at this summer’s Confederations Cup held in Russia.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has made reinforcing his attack a main priority this summer, and signing the powerful Aboubakar would certainly be a step in the right direction, whilst potentially signalling the end of Aleksandar Mitrovic’s time at St James’ Park.

Huddersfield in advanced talks with Chelsea over Izzy Brown .
Huddersfield Town are in advanced talks with Chelsea as they look to sign forward Izzy Brown on a permanent deal, as per a report from the Telegraph’s John Percy. Brown impressed during the second part of last season whilst on loan at the Terriers as he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League and now David Wagner wants to sign him permanently. The 20-year-old’s prospects of playing regular first-team football at Chelsea next season look very slim so he’s likely to be keen to make the move so that he can play top-flight football every week and do so for a team who he’s familiar with. Chelsea are reportedly going to ask for around £8million for the forward and Huddersfield are seemingly happy to pay that, even though they’ve already committed to spending £10million on Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy, another player who spent time on loan with the play-off winners last season.
