Reece Oxford has signed a deal to join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for the 2017/18 season.

Speculation had been mounting over Oxford’s short-term future at West Ham, with first-team opportunities looking somewhat unlikely.

However, a deal has now been struck with the Bundesliga side to allow him to gain some experience of regular football abroad, with Monchengladbach looking to enjoy a successful season with young players at the core.

Oxford spent the last chunk of the season on loan at Reading last time around, as he sealed a switch to Jaap Stam’s side on the final day of the January transfer window.

The promising defender will now hope to impose himself on the Bundesliga and come back to the London Stadium as a better player.

What Oxford's move to Germany means for everyone involved .
Reece Oxford completed a loan move to Borussia Monchengladbach this week which shocked the system as not many young English players get loan moves abroad, however, this is great for everybody involved. Firstly, this is great for Oxford himself, he will be getting first team football almost week in week out for a good side in one of the best leagues in the world. He will be learning a modern type of football over in the Bundesliga which suits his ball playing centre back style very well and if he succeeds in Germany then his potential would’ve really shown. Borussia Monchengladbach will be benefiting greatly from this as well, as they will be getting a great young player to add to their already talented squad. Oxford will help them improve on a somewhat disappointing ninth place finish in 2016/17. Monchengladbach will be gaining a versatile player who can play centre back and defensive midfield which is great for them as he will fill in for Andreas Christensen (centre back) who’s going back to Chelsea from a loan spell and Mahmoud Dahoud (defensive midfield) who is joining Borussia Dortmund when the transfer window officially opens. Finally, this move is great for West Ham as one of their best young talents will be getting a lot of first-team football in a great league where he will be learning a lot before his return to London at the end of the 2017/18 season. He will be learning a style of football that West Ham want to play as they try and move into Europa and Champions League places which was promised as they moved into the London Stadium. This move is a great move for everyone and it is also away from trend and if it goes well then we will see more young English talent move on loan to big European leagues such as the Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A.
