Southampton reportedly interested in Riedewald

Southampton reportedly interested in Riedewald Crystal Palace are in advanced negotiations to sign Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald, but Southampton are being linked with a late swoop. According to the Graeme Bailey of the Gambling Times, the Saints are ready to battle both Everton and Palace to land the versatile defender. Frank de Boer, recently appointed by the Eagles, has identified Riedewald as an essential signing this summer for his new side, and they certainly appear to be the front-runners in the race to sign him. However, Bailey suggests that both Everton and Southampton are in talks with Ajax over a move despite Palace being in pole position. The 20-year-old’s versatility makes him an attractive player for top flight clubs. He is primarily a centre back, but is also a competent left back and central midfielder. Saints already have a plethora of options at the back, but could still be keen on bolstering their central defence. Palace do seem to be closing in on signing Riedewald, but Saints and Everton do appear to have a genuine interest in landing him this summer.

Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald is seemingly on the brink of securing a move to Crystal Palace.

Frank de Boer is poised to make the Dutchman his second signing of the summer, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s loan move from Chelsea being the first man through the door in the new boss’ reign.

Riedewald is looking set to pen a deal with Palace in the near future, with an £8m deal between the two clubs set to be struck.

De Boer will know Riedewald from his days in the Eredivisie and will be keen to see what his trusted defender can do in the Premier League.

Everton battling to sign Riedewald

Everton battling to sign Riedewald Everton are one of three clubs battling it out to sign Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald. According to Graeme Bailey of the Gambling Times, Everton and Southampton are ready to rival Crystal Palace for his signature. This is despite Sky Sports claiming that Crystal Palace are set to agree a £8m deal to sign Jairo Riedewald. Ajax’s director of football – former Arsenal midfielder – Marc Overmars is willing to let Reidewald go due to his lack of game time last season. Reidewald was deployed in a holding midfield role, despite being known as more of a left-back or central defender. The 20-year-old is expected to sign for Palace in the coming days and link up with his compatriot Frank De Boer for pre-season. However, it appears as though Everton and Southampton have other ideas as they look to potentially hijack the deal. Everton are expected to complete a move for right-back Cuco Martina on a free transfer from Southampton this week.

Crystal Palace have reportedly fought off interest from Everton to close in on a deal to sign Jairo Riedewald from Ajax for an initial fee of £7. 5 m.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Jairo Riedewald according to reports in Holland on Wednesday morning. The 20 year old central defender can also play as a defensive midfielder and Crystal Palace are also credited with interest.

So, just what will the 20-year-old bring to Palace? I’ve taken a look at five positive aspects of Riedewald’s likely arrival in South London.

Crystal Palace looking to sign Bacary Sagna .
Frank de Boer is eager to reinforce his defence this season and is close to adding Ajax’s Jairo Riedewald to the Crystal Palace squad, but he wants more additions. It’s believed that Palace are interested in signing Bacary Sagna on a free transfer after he was released by Manchester City last month, but they face competition from West Brom for his signature. The former Arsenal standout was regarded as one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League during his best years at the Emirates but was not offered a new deal by Pep Guardiola to stay at Manchester City. While there is considerable interest from some Ligue 1 teams back in France, Sagna would like to stay in the Premier League and Palace want to make it happen. The 34-year-old France international has spent a decade in English football and enjoyed life in London, which could play into Crystal Palace’s favour.
