Swansea manager Paul Clement has heaped the praise on Southampton ahead of his side’s visit to St Mary’s tomorrow.

The Premier League season got underway this evening, but Saints will play out their first competitive match of the campaign against Clement’s side at home tomorrow afternoon.

Swansea have enjoyed a successful pre-season and will be hoping to carry their recent form into their clash against Southampton. However, Clement is wary of the threat that Saints pose, and knows that it will be a difficult encounter.

Speaking to Swansea’s official club website, Clement said this about the task at hand for his side:

“Any game away from home in the Premier League is hard and Southampton are a good side. They had a good league finish last season. They play a good style of football and they have good players.”

He also lauded the club and its philosophy of turning potential into excellence:

“I respect them as a club because they have a tradition of developing players, and we are expecting a difficult test.”

Clement helped his side to narrowly escape relegation last term, taking over from Bob Bradley. He’ll be keen to oversee the Swans getting off to a good start ahead of what promises to be a highly competitive Premier League season.
