Crystal Palace suffered a nightmare start to the season this afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Premier League new boys, Huddersfield.

The Yorkshire side were playing their first top flight game since 1972 and were clinical throughout.

They took the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances when the ball was bundled in off Joel Ward. Steve Mounie added the second with a powerful header before rounding off a terrible day for the Eagles with strike to Hennessey’s left.

It was Frank De Boer’s first outing as a Premier League manager and it’ll be one he’ll be eager to forget. The South London side put in an abject defensive display as they looked uncomfortable in the new look 3-4-3 formation.

Crystal Palace keen to beat competition to Nathaël Julan

Crystal Palace keen to beat competition to Nathaël Julan Premier League side Crystal Palace are eager to beat competition from fellow rivals Stoke City to the signing of highly-rated Le Havre striker Nathaël Julan, who has been in prolific goalscoring form, according to a report on Telefoot. The 21-year-old has been somewhat of a revelation in the French Ligue 2 after finding the back of the net five times in three games, with two of those appearances coming from the bench. He has certainly shown his finishing ability so far this season and this has attracted interest from the Premier League. Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer is monitoring his situation but Stoke City are also interested which means that the Eagles will need to act quickly if they want to bring him to Selhurst Park. The young striker has a contract with his current club Le Havre until 2019 but with so man big European clubs watching him, the club may be tempted to cash in on him this summer. Julan was a regular for the club last season as he made 25 appearances in all competitions and managed to get his name on the scoresheet six times. He seems to have took his game to a new level this season and could have earned himself a big move this summer.

There were also competitive debuts for Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Jairo Riedewald either side of Scott Dann in defence, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in midfield.

The Palace faithful will be hoping for a lot better next week as they try to make it four wins out of four at Anfield.

De Boer hints he could sell Andros Townsend .
Frank de Boer has hinted that Crystal Palace may need to sell Andros Townsend to raise funds for future transfers. The Mail Online reports that the former Inter and Ajax boss is determined to bring in a number of players before the summer window slams shuts but may need to sell first. De Boer has only been able to sign Jairo Riedewald on a permanent basis while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have both joined on loan from Chelsea and Manchester United respectively. Townsend has been linked with a move away from Palace for some time, with Newcastle holding a long-standing interest in signing the player. Rafa Benitez tried to sign the player during the January transfer window of the last season and have also look into a possible deal this summer. De Boer, however, is not willing to spend £30 million on central defender Mamadou Sakho, despite his impressive end to the season on loan from Liverpool. The Dutchman does not see the player as part of his plans or the style of football he would like to implement at Selhurst Park.
