Northern Ireland player ratings: San Marino (A)

Northern Ireland player ratings: San Marino (A) As great as the feeling is, a goal against San Marino should not produce absolute limbs. However, given that Northern Ireland are on the cusp of securing a play-off for the World Cup, no goals on 70 minutes had everyone thinking “we’ve seen it all before.” Michael O’Neill originally went too attacking. Playing four up front against one of the world’s worst sides seems a good idea on paper but football isn’t quite as simple as that. It was only when star striker Kyle Lafferty was subbed off and a more orthodox 4-3-3 was played did we get the goals to secure the win. Here’s how I rated the Northern Irish boys: Here’s how I rated the performance: Michael McGovern – 6 Wasn’t tested at all, record books will show another clean sheet for the Norwich man though. That’s six clean sheets in seven this campaign. Conor McLaughlin – 5 Given how little he had to do defensively, I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more quality going forward. Decision making was a bit off and crossing quality was lacking. Hardly disastrous, though. Jonny Evans – 5 Had an easy job given how San Marino set up with the lone striker being completely isolated. Misplaced a few passes but was fine. Aaron Hughes – 6 Same as Jonny Evans but didn’t give the ball away so gets an extra point. Chris Brunt – 4 The West Brom man was pretty poor overall. Tried far too many long balls and quality of delivery was uncharacteristically well off.

Why West Brom fans must start loving Brunt . Chris Brunt has played over 200 games for West Bromwich Albion. He has scored 34 goals, many of them spectacular and just under half of them in the top-flight, putting him fourth on our Premier League goal scorers list.

A weekend strike against Sunderland took Chris Brunt ’s tally to three goals and as many assists in just 13 starts for West Brom this For me, Eriksen is a must have and I'd choose one between Alli and Kane. Amat 😉 . Why did you go for Rodney instead of Rooney ? . Most people try and stick in a

This summer transfer window for West Bromwich Albion was simply exquisite. The signings of Jay Rodriguez, Gareth Barry, Oliver Burke, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Kieran Gibbs along with the retention of skipper Jonny Evans, are all exactly what wass needed to take the Baggies to the next level.

However, one man who cannot be dropped from the bench in expense of these new players is former captain Chris Brunt.

Now in his tenth season with the club, the Northern Irishman has taken his share of unfair criticism but it’s surely time the fans realised that Brunt should be one of the first names on the team sheet, even in a time where the quality of players coming to The Hawthorns is getting better every window.

Christopher " Chris " Brunt (born 14 December 1984) is a Northern Irish professional footballer who plays for Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. A versatile player, Brunt has featured primarily as a left winger, but can also operate as a left-back or attacking midfielder.

Brunt was subbed after 65 minutes against the Red Devils and he will be a big miss for Albion. West Brom will be missing a player with vital experience in a relegation battle. Why Arsenal must win against Swansea.

Brunt, after picking up a bad knee injury that kept him from going to Euro 2016, wasn’t expected to bounce back like he did but once he was fit last season, he immediately made his presence known.

From moments like his two beautifully delivered crosses to assist Salomon Rondon in getting his hat-trick against Swansea to his absolute rocket of a strike to seal a 2-0 win vs Sunderland, Brunt made sure his contribution to last season will be remembered.

When you look at Albion’s start to the current season, Brunt has been used at left-back and has shown his strengths. Ahmed Hegazi’s debut goal to pick up three points was, of course, due to a free kick whipped into the perfect area by the number 11.

Chris Brunt injured his anterior cruciate ligaments 13 months ago. The Northern Ireland player 'I think I've only come off the bench twice for West Brom and I've started pretty much every other Part of him must be questioning why he decided to extend stay at struggling Arsenal MARTIN KEOWN.

Cesc Fabregas to miss start of next season after red card for striking the ball at Chris Brunt 's HEAD as Gary The ball struck West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt on the side of the head. Jones also cautioned Costa for his aggression towards his opponent, something he must stop or face numerous

Also, Hal Robson-Kanu’s well taken goal at Turf Moor came from a brilliantly hoofed ball by Brunt, which caused havoc for the Burnley defence.

He continued his great start to the season whilst on international duty for Northern Ireland, where he scored a peach of a free-kick against the Czech Republic after being involved in the build up to Jonny Evans’ header.

Competition is fierce in all areas of Albion’s line up but luckily, Brunt is one of the most versatile players you’ll find.

Kieran Gibbs, the new signing from Arsenal, must go straight into the defence at left-back. The fans have waited long enough for a proper left-back under Tony Pulis and given a run of games, the former Gunner could have an excellent impact on the team.

The fight for places on the wings is greater than ever with Jay Rodriguez, Matt Phillips, Oliver Burke, James McClean and Nacer Chadli all able and ready to play on either side. There’s great talent among those names but Brunt’s ability to deliver a ball is second to none which, for me, means he has to be in contention to play down the left flank.

West Brom predicted XI: Brighton (A)

West Brom predicted XI: Brighton (A) West Brom’s first game back after the international break sees them travel south to take on Brighton & Hove Albion. The Baggies go into the game on seven points from three games whilst Brighton have just the single point from their three opening fixtures. In the past, it was fairly easy to predict Tony Pulis’ starting line up such was the lack of squad depth but that is no longer the case. Albion made a few good additions over the course of the summer and as such, Pulis has a wide range of options to choose from. Chris Brunt believes European football is the next step for West Brom . Tony Pulis: This is why Chelsea beat West Brom . West Brom 3 - Swansea 1: Rondon's 13-minute hat-trick sinks Swans. Crystal Palace 0 - Huddersfield 3: Dream start for Premier League new boys.

Two players who have been relegated with West Brom before including skipper Chris Brunt []. Roberto Mancini slammed his City side after they failed to hold on for victory at Birmingham in midweek and vulnerable Albion must expect a fierce reaction.

Although there’s three fine defensive midfielders in Barry, Krychowiak and Jake Livermore in the Albion team at the moment, one of them should be sacrificed to accommodate Brunt’s creativity. This would allow him the freedom to express his creativity in the middle of the field and to be present so he can deliver set-pieces.

This is a more general problem having three midfielders all on the defensive side so if not Brunt, Morrison or Chadli has to come in to fill the gap between midfield and lone striker.

The team missed Brunt’s presence on the pitch as he played no part in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Brighton and although there is a hot selection of talent to pick from now, he’s got to be brought back into the team.

I don’t care where on the pitch or how he’s fit in but Tony, if you read this, play Chris Brunt!
