Our man of the match: Burton Albion (H)

Our man of the match: Burton Albion (H) Norwich were left frustrated on Tuesday night as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Burton Albion. The Canaries struggled to find a way past the side who had conceded five goals to Leeds on Saturday. The best chance of the game came midway into the second half. Wes Hoolahan slipped Josh Murphy through on goal but the winger saw his shot saved by Stephen Bywater. Despite the lack of goals, Norwich have now kept three league clean sheets in-a-row at Carrow Road – a stat that bodes well for the club’s defensive woes. The club have kept two clean sheets in two games since Timm Klose has returned from injury. The Swiss international was key again as him and Christoph Zimmermann were excellent at the back. Picking a man of the match has been fairly easy, with one man really standing out for me. Our Norwich man of the match against Burton is… Timm Klose! Klose has now won our man of the match award in both of his appearances this season, after picking up the award against Birmingham on Saturday. He was superb in the air and made some important interceptions and tackles to deny Burton any chances on goal. Norwich missed his strength and leadership at the back during the start of the season. If he can stay fit, the club have a real chance this season.

Jose Mourinho thinks Carabao Cup should be scrapped

Jose Mourinho thinks Carabao Cup should be scrapped Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that top teams playing in the Carabao Cup could perform better in their European fixtures if the domestic trophy were scrapped. Speaking to Radio 5 Live after United’s well-engineered 4-1 victory over Burton Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup, Mourinho said: “If you ask me ‘could English football survive or be even be better without this competition?’ Maybe” “Maybe we would be fresher for European competition.” United are the current holders of the Carabao Cup, otherwise known as the League Cup, after beating Southampton 3-2 in the competition’s Wembley final last season. They started their defence of the trophy well against Championship side Burton Albion, and will now face Swansea City in the fourth round. Mourinho, despite his feeling towards the usefulness of the cup, says his side are looking to win the competition for a second successive season: “If the competition is an official competition then it is important for Manchester United and for me as a manager” “I want the players to think the same way. We have this competition, we have to respect the sponsors, we have to respect the opponents and a lot of us are trying to do our best.” The Red Devils’ fourth round game against Swansea is to take place during the week commencing 23rd October; United will be confident going into the game, having already beaten the Swans 4-0 in the Premier League this season.

Here are four things we learned from the game…

Norwich predicted XI: Burton Albion (H) .
Norwich City host Burton Albion at Carrow Road on Tuesday night as they look to build on their win over Birmingham. The Canaries beat Birmingham 1-0 on Saturday, with Nelson Oliveira’s early goal sealing the three points for Daniel Farke’s side. The clean sheet was massive for Norwich, who had conceded eight goals in their previous two league fixtures before Birmingham. Timm Klose came into the side and was excellent at the back alongside Christoph Zimmermann, with Grant Hanley also waiting on his full debut after a brief cameo on Saturday. Farke will hope for a similar defensive display against a Burton side who have scored just four goals in their opening six Championship matches. Burton have also conceded 14, two more than Norwich. This was heavily influenced by their 5-0 defeat to Leeds on Saturday. If Norwich play at their best, it should be a comfortable win.
