Strictly Come Dancing's Brendan Cole Blasts Shirley Ballas's Choreography Critiques ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan Cole has kicked off with judge Shirley Ballas, following her comments in last weekend’s live show. Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reacted to former player Paul Merson’s comments after he recently said the Gunners could win the league with Harry Redknapp in charge, the Evening Standard report.

Appearing on Sky One’s ‘A League of Their Own’, Merson said:

“People say he’s a wheeler-dealer and it’s so disrespectful. Tactically, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp’s tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.”

After hearing what his former player had to say, Wenger didn’t seem to take the comments with a pinch of salt, instead stating in his press conference that he isn’t interested.

Paul Merson thinks Andy Carroll should go to the World Cup

Paul Merson thinks Andy Carroll should go to the World Cup England booked their place at the World Cup on Thursday evening after a late Harry Kane goal saw them beat Slovenia 1-0. Now, Paul Merson has provided Sky Sports with the 23-man squad that he believes should be taken to Russia and he has included West Ham’s Andy Carroll in his list of names. Merson knows that not many England fans will agree with his choice of striker, but he believes that Carroll will provide Gareth Southgate with a different option should England be losing a game with just 15-20 minutes to spare. He suggests that if England are desperate for a goal, bringing Carroll, an imposing striker, off the bench will enable England to simply pump the ball up him to see what carnage he can cause. On his day, and when he is fully fit, Carroll has the ability to cause any defence problems, and when it comes to his ability in the air, there are not many who surpass him. You never know, if given the chance, he might just score or set up a goal that keeps England at the World Cup.

“These debates that I hear are a joke, a farce. If I really cared, do you think I would have survived for 18 years? I managed Paul Merson, I tried. I’m not interested.”

In Wenger’s managerial career, the Frenchman has won an astonishing 22 major honours, while Redknapp has only managed to win six honours.

"There are fans that want them to lose now," Merson told ESPN. "I think we have got to the point where it doesn't make any difference whether Wenger stays or goes. It is the same year after year and the fans have had enough of it.

This isn’t the first time Wenger has been blasted by his former player, with the pundit regularly picking faults with his former boss for some time now.

The former midfielder has even described the recent Arsenal side as an Under-12’s team, and it looks like the Frenchman has had enough, I’m sure this won’t be the last time we hear about the rift between Wenger and Merson.

Wenger escapes FA charge .
Arsene Wenger will face no FA punishment for a confrontation with referee Neil Swarbrick after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Watford. Wenger was furious at the award of a second-half penalty for Hector Bellerin's challenge on Richarlison.Sky sources indicate Wenger then pursued him down the tunnel and into the referee's changing room after the final whistle, where words were exchanged. That in itself is not necessarily an offence, depending on the words Wenger used to the referee. In his post-match interviews, Wenger called the decision "scandalous".
