Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reacted to former player Paul Merson’s comments after he recently said the Gunners could win the league with Harry Redknapp in charge, the Evening Standard report.

Appearing on Sky One’s ‘A League of Their Own’, Merson said:

“People say he’s a wheeler-dealer and it’s so disrespectful. Tactically, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp’s tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.”

After hearing what his former player had to say, Wenger didn’t seem to take the comments with a pinch of salt, instead stating in his press conference that he isn’t interested.

Arsenal predicted XI: Watford (A): Arsenal will be hoping to continue their recent run of good results when they visit Vicarage Road to take on Arsenal on Saturday evening.Whilst Arsenal are the favourites to win the game, the Hornets should not be under estimated. They’ve had a very good start to the season and a home win will see them leapfrog the Gunners in the table.Arsene Wenger will know that his team are in for a tough game so he has a lot to ponder in terms of his set up and the personal he chooses to deploy. Here is the XI that I think he’ll select for the game: © Dan Mullan/Getty Images Sport Arsenal will be hoping to continue their recent run of good results when they visit Vicarage Road to take on Arsenal on Saturday evening.Whilst Arsenal are the favourites to win the game, the Hornets should not be under estimated. They’ve had a very good start to the season and a home win will see them leapfrog the Gunners in the table.Arsene Wenger will know that his team are in for a tough game so he has a lot to ponder in terms of his set up and the personal he chooses to deploy. Here is the XI that I think he’ll select for the game:

“These debates that I hear are a joke, a farce. If I really cared, do you think I would have survived for 18 years? I managed Paul Merson, I tried. I’m not interested.”

In Wenger’s managerial career, the Frenchman has won an astonishing 22 major honours, while Redknapp has only managed to win six honours.

'Redknapp tactically better than Wenger'

'Redknapp tactically better than Wenger' If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp’s tactical nous then Arsenal would win the Premier League, according to Paul Merson. The Sky Sports pundit, who played under both men during respective spells at Arsenal and Portsmouth, says he rates Redknapp higher than Wenger when it comes to tactics."People say he's a wheeler-dealer and it's so disrespectful," he said on A League Of Their Own."Tactically, he's one of the best I've worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp's tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.

"There are fans that want them to lose now," Merson told ESPN. "I think we have got to the point where it doesn't make any difference whether Wenger stays or goes. It is the same year after year and the fans have had enough of it.

This isn’t the first time Wenger has been blasted by his former player, with the pundit regularly picking faults with his former boss for some time now.

The former midfielder has even described the recent Arsenal side as an Under-12’s team, and it looks like the Frenchman has had enough, I’m sure this won’t be the last time we hear about the rift between Wenger and Merson.

Wenger backs Wilshere to go to the World Cup .
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed midfielder Jack Wilshere to make the England World Cup squad next summer. Wenger says that Wilshere is in good form at the moment and that there is no reason why he cannot make the squad. Speaking to The Mirror, Wenger said this: “I believe that Jack, at the moment, is in the best form I’ve seen him in for a long time.” Wilshere has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Crystal Palace and West Ham reportedly keen, but Wenger thinks Wilshere can stay at Arsenal and still return to the England set-up. “I believe he doesn’t necessarily have to leave Arsenal to reach the World Cup.” England booked their place in the 2018 Russia World Cup last week with a 1-0 win over Slovenia at Wembley. Harry Kane scored an added time goal to secure qualification with a game in-hand, with Wilshere now having the chance to represent his country in the finals next year. The Arsenal man has not been in an England squad since last November, but has impressed in his recent performances for Wenger’s side. Wilshere will just need to stay injury-free in the run up to next summer, with Wenger saying how confident he is of the midfielder making the cut. “If he keeps going like he’s going at the moment, he will go to the World Cup, I’m sure.
