Liverpool target De Vrij set for Lazio contract talks

Liverpool target De Vrij set for Lazio contract talks Liverpool’s defence has been heavily scrutinised this season for not being up to scratch this season but Jurgen Klopp has been reported to be looking into additions once the January transfer window opens. One player the Reds are said to be interested in signing is Lazio centre-back Stefan de Vrij whose situation at the Serie A club is up in the air to say the least. De Vrij’s contract expires at the end of the season and he’s so far rejected every attempt from Lazio to tie him down to a new deal, but things may have now changed as he’s set for showdown talks over a new contract and his future. The 25-year-old is set for decisive talks in the next 48 hours with Liverpool and Juventus keeping tabs on the situation ahead of a potential January swoop. Liverpool can approach to sign him on a pre-contract from January onwards if his situation remains the same.

The Dutch defender is in the last year of his contract with the Italian side, and reports suggest that the only sticking point between the club and the player in negotiations relates to the value of the release clause in de Vrij ’s contract.

Liverpool target and Lazio centre back Stefan De Vrij looks set to sign a new deal with Lazio that will include a €25m release clause.

Italian radio presenter Niccolo Ceccarini has said that Lazio are close to finding an agreement with De Vrij over a new contract.

They were originally demanding that his release clause be higher, but have lowered it to €25m in order to secure a deal.

According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus and Liverpool are both interested in De Vrij.

“On De Vrij, it seems like Lazio may have lowered their demands concerning his release clause. At 25 million euros, an agreement can be found. As for his salary, Lazio will offer him a big salary which would see him become one of the highest paid players in their team if he renews his deal with the club.”

Stefan de Vrij hinting away from Anfield link

Stefan de Vrij hinting away from Anfield link Stefan de Vrij, who has been linked with a move to Anfield, has spoken about a new Lazio contract. The Dutch defender has reportedly been on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, as well as Juventus looking at the centre back. The 25-year-old’s contract runs out in summer and within the next two months, he will be available for pre-contract agreement talks with other clubs. Liverpool have reportedly been one of these clubs looking to sin him, as well as Juventus, but the Old Lady aren’t seeing de Vrij as their priority. Klopp’s men have been heavily criticised for their defensive performances this season, and a new defender in January is what many professionals are saying should be the German manager’s main concern. However, de Vrij has been saying about his contract situation at Lazio after their Europa League match with Nice (via Inside Futbol): “I hope to reach an agreement with the club and that everything goes according to my wishes.” He has been a Lazio star player and one of the first names of the sheet since he signed after his great performances as a really young defender at the 2014 World Cup for the Netherlands. Liverpool really could do with a defender like de Vrij who could really sort out the defensive issues, but it all depends on if Lazio meet his demands before talks can begin.

Towards the end of May, just before Liverpool were called out for illegally approaching Virgil Van Dijk, there was talk of the club being interested in Stefan De Vrij . Yet to renew his contract with Lazio, the Dutch international’s agency are apparently stalling as their demands of a €20- 25 m release clause

Lazio want to set the release clause at € 30 million, De Vrij wants the release clause to be lower than that, possibly around € 25/30 million.

Liverpool are in the market to improve their defence and could see De Vrij as a cheaper alternative to his compatriot Virgil Van Dijk.

The Southampton defender could cost upwards of £60m if they were to make a January move for the Premier League defender.

De Vrij has impressed for Lazio this season, with the Rome-based side sitting fourth in the table.

The 25-year-old has 31 caps for his country, Holland.

Celtic set for huge transfer windfall in January .
Celtic are likely to benefit significantly from a sell-on clause if the transfer of former defender Virgil van Dijk goes through in the January window. Liverpool had originally tried to sign the Dutchman in the summer window, but their attempts fell through and van Dijk remained at Southampton. However, The Daily Record reports that Liverpool are now ready to make another bid to bring van Dijk to Anfield. A deal could cost Liverpool up to a staggering £70 million and with a sell-on clause of 10% put in his contract by the Scottish giants, they could be gaining around £7 million, a sum which would be very beneficial to the Hoops. In his time in Scotland, the Dutchman progressed well under the management of both Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila – featuring in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year in 2014 and 2015 and made a total of 76 appearances, scoring nine goals. He showed a great class of performances towards the end of his Celtic career, earning him a move down south to St Mary’s for around £13 million. If this Liverpool deal does go through in January, the signing and sale of the defender will prove to be a very beneficial piece of business by Celtic, giving Brendan Rodgers more money to spend to improve his squad.
