Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is to join up with the senior England squad to face Brazil on Tuesday, alongside Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke.

This comes from a report in the Guardian, which states that Gareth Southgate is not afraid to take risks or make difficult decisions — which is just as well for the Three Lions, given the injury crisis they’ve found themselves in.

Seven players, including Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jack Butland have withdrawn from the England squad with injury ahead of the side’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil — but instead of simply calling up a whole catalogue of more senior players, Southgate wants to test the waters with younger talent:

Southgate selects "very good" Joe Gomez in England squad

Southgate selects England manager Gareth Southgate has been full of praise for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez after selecting the youngster in the senior England squad, according to a report on the Telegraph. Gomez has been hugely impressive when called upon this season and has seen himself become a regular in the right-back position at the Merseyside club during the absence of Nathaniel Clyne through injury. Gomez, who was appointed England Under-21s captain earlier this year, has enjoyed a fine start to the season and has put the injury troubles of recent years firmly behind him. The 20-year-old has grown in confidence and England boss Southgate has rewarded him by promoting him from the U21s to the senior squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Germany. Southgate said: “He’s a centre back. A back-three is perfect for him, he’s quick, athletic and can use the ball. [He has a] Great personality, really good feedback from Aidy at U21s. I’m pleased to work with him again.” Gomez is one of three Under-21 players who have been called up to the senior squad. Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek also got the call by Southgate who is looking to give the youngsters a chance to prove themselves on the international stage.

Described as being physically strong with good aerial presence, Calvert - Lewin has just been named in England 's U20 squad , having made it into the Blades' senior squad last year following a loan spell at Northampton Town. Joined from.

“If we don’t try things now, when will we?”

“And it’s not just about Russia [next summer’s World Cup], it’s beyond that. Germany took a young team to the Confederations Cup. They are brave enough to take decisions which might get them results or might not. They are constantly evolving and that’s what we have to do.”

Calvert-Lewin and Solanke will play for the Three Lions’ under-21 outfit as planned on Friday, and will watch on as Southgate’s men then take on world champions Germany.

The pair will then be incorporated into the senior side ahead of their game against Brazil on Tuesday night.

Dominic Solanke could earn England debut on Tuesday night .
According to ITV, Liverpool youngster Dominic Solanke could make his senior England debut on Tuesday night against Brazil at Wembley. After Harry Kane pulled out of the national side’s friendlies this international break, Liverpool’s Solanke got a call-up to the senior England national side for the first time. Other youngsters in Lewis Cook and Angus Gunn earned call ups after another four players pulled out of the squad. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tammy Abraham and Jordan Pickford all made their senior England debuts on Friday in the 0-0 draw with current world champions, Germany, where Loftus-Cheek impressed. Solanke will hope to make an impression on Tuesday night, just like Loftus-Cheek. When asked about the youngsters playing against Brazil, Gareth Southgate said “It’s a very easy squad to settle in to, the senior players are very open, very welcoming. Most of the squad are young anyway so know each other from younger age groups. Those (three new) guys have fitted in off the field no problem which helps them to fit in on the field – and they’re good players, so in training they look fine. We have to see how the game progresses but I won’t have any hesitation in putting them on the pitch.
