Man United sign highly-touted Benfica youngster

Man United sign highly-touted Benfica youngster Manchester United have reportedly completed the signing of highly-rated Benfica youngster Umaro Embaló, according to Portuguese paper Record. The Reds have been tracking the 16-year-old forward for almost a year, and the Portuguese under-17 international was in action against the Reds in the UEFA Youth League just last month, playing 25 minutes as Benfica drew 2-2 with Nicky Butt’s side in Lisbon. Embaló, who had also been linked with Real Madrid, will make the move to Old Trafford for an undisclosed fee, and that should be significantly higher than the £4 million offer by United that was reportedly rejected by Benfica in the summer. The Guinean-born youngster has been prolific for both club and country, having scored 15 times in 18 games for Portugal’s under-17 side. This season, he’s provided one goal and one assist for Benfica in the UEFA Youth League, with the Eagles sitting one point off Basel in third. Embaló, who has been likened to former Manchester United man Ángel Di María in style, is a quick, direct forward who is often deployed on the right wing, although he is adaptable enough to play anywhere across the frontline. Once the move is officially complete, he is expected to link up with Kieran McKenna’s under-18 side and if he can prove those comparisons with Di María to be accurate, the future will be bright at the Theatre of Dreams.

Benfica youngster and Portugal U17 international Umaro Embalo has been a long standing transfer target for Manchester United.

Embalo’s agent has responded to the talk of this after the plans were put in place for the Benfica player to immediately be put in the United youth setup at Carrington.

Earlier on in the week, it was said that United had tabled a bid worth in the region of £5 million for the 16-year-old, who has been a big interest for a number of teams around Europe so far this season.

The agent of the player, however, completely dismissed any talk of a deal already being agreed in principle, whilst also stating that some conversations have been held in relation to the transfer of the player.

Discussing his client’s future with Portuguese news outlet A Bola, as covered by the MEN, Embalo’s agent said:

“Nothing is done, and the conversation, nobody communicated anything to me, nor to the parents. He has interest from several clubs, because he is an asset of Benfica and has gone down this route well.”

“I can say that all the great clubs in Europe have already asked for information about Umaro, from Germany, England, Spain, France.”

The agent later stated that he wasn’t sure on the location of where the player may end up.

“If he’s going to Manchester is something that I don’t know at all, but it’s true that we have already met with Benfica and Manchester, there is no agreement, but there are conversations.”

Masuaku hits back at claims he's looking to leave West Ham

Masuaku hits back at claims he's looking to leave West Ham In the last 48 hours, claims supposedly coming from the agent of West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku suggested that he was looking to leave the club in the January transfer window. Masuaku has split opinions of West Ham fans during the 18 months he has spent at the club since his £6m arrival from Olympiakos but at this time the club need to look at bringing in defenders rather than letting them go. Reports suggested that a transfer to Serie A was on the cards with the likes of Napoli and Juventus having had eyes on the fullback in recent years, but Masuaku has taken to Twitter to reject those claims. Twitter: In order to avoid any misunderstandings i’d like to stress out that neither me or my agent (Panos Galariotis) know… https://t.co/1woF289pZH (@ArthurMasuaku) The 24-year-old says that neither he or his agent knows the person in Italy who leaked the comments, stating they are not true and his only focus is to help West Ham achieve their goals this season. “In order to avoid any misunderstandings i’d like to stress out that neither me or my agent (Panos Galariotis) know mr. from Italy… So everything that is published is completely false. I’m only focused on helping my team achieve its goals.” Masuaku has made eight appearances for the Hammers this season, scoring his first goal for the club in a 3-0 win over Bolton in the Carabao Cup third round.
