Triple World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea has been shortlisted for the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, the first motorcycle racer to have been nominated in 10 years.

Northern Irishman Rea enjoyed a banner third season with the factory Kawasaki Racing Team in WorldSBK, becoming the firstever rider in the series’ 30year history to secure three titles backtoback.

Rea dominated the season with 16 wins, six of those coming as doubles, while also moving into second on the alltime winners list with 54 and securing the record for most points scored in a single season with 556 – beating double world champion Colin Edwards’ 2002 total of 552.

In an interview with Billboard magazine earlier this year (17), she described her family's connection with her aunt by saying, "The spirit of Joanne is very much alive within my family.

Rea joins the likes of fourtime Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic athletics champion Sir Mo Farah on the 2017 shortlist.

The award ceremony will take place in Liverpool on December 17.

Klopp and Salah Nominated for Monthly Awards .
Liverpool’s dynamic forward Mohamed Salah was nominated for November’s Premier League Player of the Month award, while his manager Jurgen Klopp was nominated for the Manager of the Month award . The Egyptian attacker enjoyed an excellent month in front of goal, netting seven goals in four outings, with braces against Southampton and Stoke City being the highlights of his month. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s German boss Jurgen Klopp was nominated for the award after a month in which he guided his team to four wins in five games – the draw against Chelsea being the only points dropped. Klopp is up against Antonio Conte, Sean Dyche, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, and Arsene Wenger. Fans can cast their votes for the awards here.
