Mo Salah "has been a revelation" - Phil Thompson

Mo Salah Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has labelled Mohamed Salah a revelation, praising the impact he has had since signing for the Anfield outfit in the summer. Salah came off the bench to net a brace for the Reds’ against Stoke on Wednesday as the club sailed to a comfortable 3-0 victory, earning Jurgen Klopp’s men their seventh league win of the season. Salah’s brace took the Egyptian forward back to being the sole goalscoring chart leader in the Premier League with 12, moving two clear of Tottenham’s Harry Kane. Salah has scored 17 times in all competitions this season. Phil Thompson, who initially doubted the 25-year old’s ability, is now convinced after several dominant displays. Thompson, talking to Premier League Daily, said; “He’s been a revelation. Dare I say, it when we were signing him in the summer I was thinking, ‘I’ve seen this player at Chelsea and he didn’t pull up any trees for Chelsea’.” “He didn’t have many games and I think he scored two goals in about 13 matches and I thought, he didn’t even look a player.” “When he was at Roma, I looked at the stats of the player and thought, ‘it’s not just the goals he scores but the assists that he made.” Thompson compared Salah to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, another player who failed to make it at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho but flourished in a different European competition, before returning to the Premier League a much stronger player.

Ajax have snapped up teenager Perr Schuurs from Fortuna Sittard following reported interest from Liverpool.

Talented centre-back Schuurs has agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Amsterdam ArenA, but will be loaned back to second-tier side Fortuna for the remainder of the season when the deal goes through on January 1.

The defender was named captain of Fortuna ahead of the 2017-18 season, at just 17 years of age, having impressed in his debut campaign with the first team.

Schuurs had been touted as a candidate to strengthen Liverpool's under-fire defence, while also being linked with the Reds' Premier League rivals Tottenham, but he felt Ajax was the right fit despite talking to other suitors.

"It is a dream to be able to play at a top club like Ajax," he said in a statement on Fortuna's official website.

"There were several clubs interested and I also spoke with other clubs, but my feeling at Ajax was immediately very good. I think that's important."

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars said: "He knows what is required of him to be able to reach the top. The fact that he is already captain at Fortuna Sittard at this young age also says something about his personality.

"We are pleased that we have been able to sign this great Dutch talent."

It is already being suggested that Schuurs could be a long-term successor at Ajax for Matthijs de Ligt, with the 18-year-old centre-half being heavily linked with a switch to La Liga giants Barcelona.

Ajax have also announced the signing of Boureima Hassane Bande from Mechelen this week.

Danny Rose is Mourinho's top transfer target .
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has prioritised the signing of a full-back in the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur player Danny Rose being his main target, according to a report on the Independent. Rose has been linked with a move away from the north London club ever since he made public comments against the club’s wage structure and failure to win silverware. The defender is also thought to be keen to work under Mourinho and with Luke Shaw struggling to break into the team, leaving the Red Devils needing a new left-back. Rose wants to win trophies and his desire to do so could see him make the move to Old Trafford, with United challenging on all fronts. The United manager is keen to add to his attack as well but believes that signing a top quality left-back is the logical thing to do midway through the season. Englishman Ashley Young has deputised brilliantly in the left-back spot so far this season and Matteo Darmian has also filled in well when needed. The move for Rose could spell the end for Shaw at United and he could be used in a potential swap deal, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino keen for a reunion with the player that he developed so well during their time together at Southampton.
