Unsworth caps off winning weekend with award

Unsworth caps off winning weekend with award David Unsworth has capped off a successful weekend by being awarded the Talent Development Coach of the Year award at the UK Coaching Awards. Unsworth, who took over as interim Everton manager when Ronald Koeman was sacked last month, ended his short-term spell as Everton manager on Wednesday night with a convincing 4-0 win over West Ham. With Sam Allardyce now having been confirmed as the new Everton manager, Unsworth has thankfully decided to remain with the club to continue the fantastic job he has done with the U23s. Unsworth has also seen a number of his young players progress into the first-team set-up in recent years, particularly through Mason Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny and most recently with Beni Baningime. While Unsworth may be disappointed not to have landed the first-team job on a permanent basis, much of the fan base is thrilled that he will remain with the club, in a youth coaching capacity.

Nothing much to really see here. We went to Apollon under no illusions that it was a dead rubber and we played very much like it was. We took the mick at times during the game and coasted home beyond a 15 minute period either side of the half where Joel Robles made a few tidy saves.

The young Blues were by far the better team and it wasn’t really a case of Apollon being especially poor, the kids were alright. Ademola Lookman, Morgan Feeney, Harry Charsley and Nikola Vlašić all really impressed while experienced heads such as Robles, Kvein Mirallas and Mo Bešić seemed to cope well.
