Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for child pornography crimes.

Nassar, who has also pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual assault, was sentenced to 20 years on each of the three pornography counts against him, with the time to be served consecutively.

The 54-year-old, who also worked as a doctor within the Michigan State University athletics department, has also pleaded guilty to 10 sexual assault charges, and is due to be sentenced for those offences next month.

He pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in July.

The court clerk's office confirmed the sentences to Press Association Sport. Nassar's punishment was handed down on Thursday by Judge Janet T Neff.

The 54-year-old Nassar was involved with America's world-beating gymnastics programme from the 1980s until July 2015, when the sport's national governing body sacked him.

Nassar has been accused of assault by more than 140 women and girls, including Olympic medallists McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas and Jamie Dantzscher.
