The Liverpool Echo reports that the defender has suffered a new injury after missing games against Sevilla due to a thigh injury. Speaking in his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s game, Klopp confirmed that the defender will be sidelined this weekend. “So it looks like Joel Matip is out, after the game he had a problem, felt something muscle wise. We have to make a final assessment but it doesn’t look like he’s ready for tomorrow.” It appeared that the defender had got the better of his injury concerns after he started games against Chelsea and Stoke. Ragnar Klavan is likely to come back into the side alongside Croatian defender Dejan Lovren. Liverpool will be hoping to take all three points on Saturday to keep the pressure on the top four. A win on Saturday could take the Reds within three points of Manchester United in second place, depending on other results. Brighton themselves have enjoyed a strong start to life in the Premier League, winning four and drawing five of their opening 14 games.

Juventus confirm interest in Can .
Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that he is monitoring the progress of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. Marotta has revealed that Can is a player Juventus are tracking, although he admits many clubs around Europe are doing the same. As quoted by FourFourTwo, Marotta said this: “Emre Can is a name doing the rounds because his contract is running down.” “I won’t deny he is a player we too have monitored and many important clubs will try to close a deal over the next few weeks.” “We are tracking the situation, nothing more.” Can’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, which means that he could sign a pre-contract agreement with Juventus in January. Players in the final year of the their contract can sign a deal with a foreign club in January, to complete a free transfer in the summer. Can missed out on Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth through suspension, and has started 11 games in the Premier League this season. Juventus have been linked with Can for months now, with Liverpool still trying to negotiate a new contract with Can. That looks unlikely at this time, though, with Juventus possibly closing in on the German.
