"I think there is no doubt we've got to get better at that position," Elway said, via the team's website. "For us to have a chance to get better, we've got to get better at that position."

Broncos quarterbacks Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch put on less than impressive performances this season, combining for a 73.0 passer rating ranking 31st in the league. Furthermore, only the winless Browns had more turnovers than the Broncos.

This will be no different. John Elway appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Friday morning. His health was a factor, but there are some obvious differences between what Elway and Kubiak wanted from, and for, the quarterback position .

"Obviously, that position didn't perform as well as we wanted it to. I thought it would perform better than it did," Elway said. "And it's not just on them; I think there's a lot of circumstances that went into that, that put them in tough situations. But we didn't perform as well as we'd like to, so that's obviously a position that we feel like we have to get better at going into next season."

Elway added the team will examine all options both in free agency and the draft during its search for a starting quarterback who's in it for the long haul.

"We're going to go through that whole thing," Elway said. "We'll look at what's available in free agency as well as the draft, where we sit in the draft. ... That whole evaluation will come. Free agency comes first. We'll look at that situation and understand where we are in the draft and what's available in the draft."

The Broncos (5-11) secured the No. 5 pick in April's draft after ending their worst season since 2010 with a loss to the Chiefs in Week 17.
