The Titans, Rams, Bills, Jaguars, Panthers and Saints are the relative newcomers hoping to advance to Round 2. In total, including the Eagles and Vikings, there are eight new playoff teams this year, tied for the most in a single season (2003) since the NFL adopted the 12-team playoff format in 1990.

The teams I picked last week, all underdogs, didn't even come close to covering the spreads. This certainly needs more study, so—as any true data journalist would do—I am going back to the well. Here are my picks for the NFL 's divisional round games

With the Divisional Round upon us, the time has come to head to our RAF roundtable to see what our writers can envision for a weekend of red-hot football action.

Eight teams remain in the fight for the Lombardi Trophy. Which of those eight will fall this weekend, and which will advance to Championship Sunday? David Howell, Joe Hulbert, Tristan Fitzpatrick, and Alan Cole took questions from Sam Brown, covering all four of the matchups this weekend. As well as predicting who will win each of the games, they were asked about what might make the games go a certain way – key players, key matchups, and – in this year of quarterback injuries – the unheralded signal-callers looking to carry some of this year’s playoff teams deep into championship contention.

  Buffalo Bills fall flat on long-awaited return to NFL play-offs The Buffalo Bills fell at the first hurdle as they ended their long post-season drought with a 10-3 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card Round of the play-offs. Buffalo - who suffered the longest barren spell without post-season action across all four major sports in the US before this season - had not featured in the play-offs since losing 22-16 at this stage in 1999, and had not reached the Divisional Round since 1995.

After an entertaining NFL wildcard weekend filled with so much emotion in last play situations, the divisional round matchups are set. The top teams are facing underdog opponents that look to make a statement in this year’s playoffs.

This leads us into the divisional round games this weekend and with the two best best teams in each division hosting a game: it should get interesting. Another mind blowing stat is that for Tom Brady, this game will tie him for the most playoff games in NFL history (30) with Adam Vinatieri!

NFL – Divisional Round . It’s on to the Divisional Round where the Eagles, Patriots, Steelers and Vikings await the Wild Card Weekend winners. The Falcons and Titans progressed as outsiders, while both the Jaguars and Saints got through as expected.
