Mathew Barzal had two goals and three assists while Anthony Beauvillier also scored a brace as the Islanders won the battle of New York, seeing off the Rangers 7-2.

Beauvillier struck first with his sixth of the season on 6:06, with Kevin Hayes drawing the sides level eight minutes later.

The Islanders then hit four in a row - the Barzal brace coming in just under three second-period minutes as the Islanders put the game beyond doubt.

Mika Zibanejad scored Rangers' second and his 14th of the season, but Thomas Hickey and Cal Clutterbuck grabbed two more in the last five minutes.

The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings by the same score, with Sidney Crosby hitting his 16th of the season to round off the scoring.

The San Jose Sharks prevailed in a shootout to beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-5, while a Corey Perry goal on 18:32 in the third sealed a 4-2 win for the Anaheim Ducks over the Los Angeles Kings.

The Ottawa Senators hit three goals in the last period to take the San Jose Sharks into overtime - before Matt Duchene found the net after just seven seconds for the game-winner. Mike Hoffman won the opening face-off in the extra period and passed to Duchene to seal the 6-5 win.The Sharks had cantered to a 4-1 lead early in the second, with Thomas Hertl opening the scoring, but Ottawa's Derick Brassard and Hoffman found the net, along with Duchene, as the visitors let their three-goal lead slip.
