Ben Stokes 'won't be risked' against New Zealand

Ben Stokes 'won't be risked' against New Zealand England won’t risk Ben Stokes in their crucial T20 tri-series game with New Zealand on Sunday, Sky Sports report. Stokes landed in New Zealand on Friday having pleaded not guilty to affray at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and has practised with the side. The all-rounder’s session included batting in the nets and carrying out fielding drills with the squad, however, he did not bowl. Captain Eoin Morgan is expected to be fit after a recent groin strain, but stated that Stokes is expected to miss out. “We’re not expecting Ben to play, he only got off a long flight yesterday.” Morgan is set to replace James Vince in the side, while seamer Tom Curran and spinner Liam Dawson are possibilities to step in for injured fast bowler Liam Plunkett. Despite losing three from three so far, a win for England on Sunday could see them progress to the final against Australia, however, they will need to better New Zealand’s net run rate in the process.

Ben Stokes has confirmed he will not travel to New Zealand for the T20 series until after his court hearing on February 13. The 26-year-old will miss the first T20 match England play in New Zealand as it is scheduled for the same day as his hearing.

“Any decision to include him in upcoming matches will be made by Head Coach Trevor Bayliss and the England management team. He is not currently being considered for the ongoing International T20 Tri-Series.”

Australia crush New Zealand to win T20 tri-series .
Australia cruised to a comfortable victory over New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman T20 series final to maintain their perfect winning record in the tournament, according to a report on the Daily Mail. The win was confirmed by an unsatisfactory method as they secured a 19-run win against New Zealand under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the rain-affected final. They finished the tournament with an unbeaten record over five matches, which included a comprehensive win over England. The title has seen them shoot up the world rankings from seventh to first place. Australia captain David Warner was delighted with the performance of the team. He said: “Right from the get go we played superb cricket. I just asked the guys to execute with energy in everything we did and they have.” “People talk about us not taking T20 seriously, but this bunch have come with superb form and I couldn’t be prouder of the guys. It proves the great depth in Australia cricket.” New Zealand only posted a modest score of 150 for 9, which led to Australian batsmen Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch to comfortably lead them to victory. The only negative news for Australia from the win is the injury suffered by batsman Chris Lynn, who dislocated his shoulder while diving. Lynn will return to Brisbane to have further scans on the injury which will then reveal the severity of the injury.
