Aubameyang arrival hurt Lacazette's confidence – Wenger

Aubameyang arrival hurt Lacazette's confidence – Wenger Despite becoming the Gunners' record signing during the summer, the former Lyon striker now finds himself down the pecking order in north LondonArsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Alexandre Lacazette may have lost confidence after the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.

Aubameyang has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Alexis Sanchez if the Chile global is sold this month, but Wenger rubbished those claims in a news conference on Friday. A frustrated Wenger called decisions made against Arsenal a "concerning coincidence".

Arsene Wenger has criticised Uefa’s rule which leaves Arsenal‘s £56m January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ineligible to play in their Europa League round-of-32 first leg against Ostersunds FK on Thursday evening, and the rest of the competition, despite the striker having not played in it this season.

Speaking to The Guardian, Wenger said this:

“I believe that all the clubs agree now this rule has to disappear in Europe. When you look at the transfer amounts you spend now, that you have to spend £50m, £60m, £70m in the middle of the season, that the players cannot play doesn’t make sense.”

Danny Welbeck is set to line up for Arsenal in the centre forward position, as Arsenal look to take a strong lead into the second leg.

Wright: Wenger has destroyed star man's confidence .
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has accused Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger of destroying summer signing Alexandre Lacazette’s confidence, according to the Mirror. The Frenchman moved to the Gunners in the summer for £46.5 million but after a fine start, he has struggled to keep the goals flowing. His form has dipped so much that he has netted just one goal in his last 12 matches and the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in the January window for a club-record fee only spells more trouble for Lacazette. The striker has also been frustrated, as he has been subbed off in 15 of his 22 starts this season. Lacazette, who netted in his first Arsenal game against Leicester, was limited to no action in the win over Everton which has proven to be a cause for concern for the Frenchman, as he frets over his game-time. The former Arsenal striker Wright has spoken about the situation that Lacazette has found himself in a recent interview. “He [Lacazette] has played well in games, he has scored goals, but he has been taken off. Wenger has destroyed Lacazette’s confidence.
