Crystal Palace have taken Southampton right-back Richard Bakary on trial, as per a report in the Croydon Advertiser.

The 20-year-old is out of contract in the summer and with it looking unlikely that he’ll be offered a new deal at St Mary’s, he’s joining Palace for the next few weeks, where he’ll hope to impress enough to secure a deal.

The Benin international joined Southampton from Chelsea four years ago but hasn’t been able to force his way into their first team.

VIDEO REVIEW | Crystal Palace 2-3 Manchester United In this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast, I review the game against Manchester United by giving you my match review, player rankings as well as my Man of the Match. Palace surrendered a 2-goal lead. Having fought hard throughout the game, the Eagles deservedly took the lead through Andros Townsend and doubled it, soon after half time, through a quick-thinking goal by Patrick van Aanholt. However, it was heartbreak for Roy Hodgson’s men as Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku cancelled out the earlier 2-0 lead. Late into injury time Nemanja Matic struck home the winner meaning, even though they deserved more for their efforts, Palace were left with nothing for their performance. How good is Aaron Wan-Bissaka? Who’s to blame for the goals? Should Riedewald have come on earlier? How good is the Christian Benteke & Alexander Sørloth partnership? All this and more in this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast. Subscribe to The e-Crystal Palace Podcast for more weekly podcasts and opinion pieces from Palace fans. Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson confirmed that midfielder Bakary Sako will not return this season. The Mali international took a pass from Christian Benteke and cut in from the left and silenced a shot past Nick Pope for what turned out to be the match-winner in the 21st minute.

Southampton have a decent crop of right-backs at the club, so it is no surprise to see Bakary looking elsewhere as he looks to finally make the step up to playing regular, first-team football.

Whether that is at Palace or elsewhere remains to be seen.

In this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast, I review the game against Huddersfield Town by giving you my match review, player rankings as well as my Man of the Match. After many weeks there, Palace finally climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone after picking up a fine victory. The Eagles dominated the game throughout and rightly gained the lead midway through the first half when James Tomkins forced the ball home from a corner. The three points were sealed the on 68 minutes when captain and top scorer Luka Milivojevic scored his eighth of the campaign following Andros Townsend being brought down inside the box for a penalty by Mathias Jorgenson. How good is the Sakho-Tomkins partnership? After another strong performance, does Aaron Wan-Bissaka deserve to keep his place? How important is Luka Milivojevic? Which system suits the team better; the 4-4-2 or the 4-5-1? All this and more in this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast.
