Rafa Benitez won't commit to Newcastle without guarantees from Mike Ashley

Rafa Benitez won't commit to Newcastle without guarantees from Mike Ashley Rafa Benitez will hold talks with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley before committing his future to the club, after they secured their Premier League survival with a win over Arsenal. Despite reports over the weekend claiming he has already committed to staying on for at least another year, Benitez has made no promises and wants to ensure he is going to get the financial backing he needs to keep improving the team. Asked whether he will extend a contract that will have just 12-months left to run in June, Benitez replied: “If everything is right, it is a good opportunity, but everything has to be right… we have to be sure that, next year, we have the tools to compete at the level we want to compete at.” That should not detract from the joy sweeping across Tyneside. A top 10 finish for Rafa and Newcastle would be nothing short of a miracle, with a squad pretty much the same as last season, it would be a fantastic achievement.

100 Comments on " Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle – player ratings ". Xhaka was great 1st half, pretty shaky the 2nd, but our finishing was piss poor through out, in that sense some of the attacking players should probably get as bad a rating .

71 Comments on " Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle – player ratings ". Very impressive win and performance from us considering the form newcastle were in, and last weeks train-wreck at Stoke. I fancy us to beat Liverpool next week.

They were always a threat with Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but found it difficult to get through a stubborn home defence in a very exciting contest in the North East.

Spaniard flattered by Arsenal interest but has no desire to leave Newcastle .
Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has said that it is nice to be linked with the Arsenal job, but, contract talks have opened over a new deal at St James Park according to the Metro. The Toon are all but safe in the Premier League having won their last four Premier League games following their promotion from the Championship last season and are targeting a top ten finish. Just three more points would be enough to keep the experienced Spanish manager’s side in the division mathematically after a run of fine results. Newcastle claimed a much-needed win at Arsenal at the weekend which led to Arsenal supporters wanting them to replace Wenger with Benitez at the end of the season. The Newcastle fans would be very reluctant to see him leave after doing a great job at the club guiding them past the 40 point mark Benitez spoke about the situation in a recent interview: “The fact that you get linked, it is something positive because it makes you proud of your career trajectory.” “People in England are conscious of the fact that experience in the Premier League is important and, what is more, you go to other competitions and other leagues and win as well.
