Champions League: Team of the Week

Champions League: Team of the Week The quarter-finals of the Champions League drew to a conclusion on Wednesday evening and it’s safe to say that it was a dramatic game-week. On Tuesday, Liverpool went head to head with Manchester City and were able to come away with a 2-1 win at the Etihad. This meant that the Reds progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League with a 5-1 win on aggregate. Roma, on the same night, completed one of the Champions League’s most historic comebacks. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side beat Barcelona 3-0 at home, meaning that they progressed through by away goals with a 4-4 scoreline on aggregate. Bayern Munich progressed on the following evening as they held Sevilla to a 0-0 draw. This meant that Jupp Heynckes men went through with a 2-1 win on aggregate. The final tie was Real Madrid’s home game with Juventus. Massimiliano Allegri’s men stunned the Bernabeu by netting three goals. However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s last minute penalty saw Juve’s dreams crushed, with Real progressing with a 4-3 win on aggregate.

Liverpool have been linked with a €50m move for the Brazlian shot-stopper, who says his future is "in the hands of God".

Roma ‘Forced to Sell’ Alisson This Summer? Liverpool’s interest in AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson has reportedly cooled, with Klopp now expected Italian publication Tuttosport have claimed that Can won’t announce his future plans until next month at the earliest, while he rightly focuses on his current club.

“I don’t understand why people keep asking me if Alisson will be our goalkeeper next season, we have no intention of selling him. No chance.”

“We thought he was a great goalkeeper when we signed him and there is no way we are selling.”

If Roma were to sell then an upwards of a £50m bid would have to be placed by Liverpool.

AS Roma have issued a statement condemning a section of their fans after they attacked Liverpool supporters before last night’s Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield. One Liverpool fan, 53-year-old Sean Cox from Dunboyne in Ireland, is currently at Walton Neurological Centre, where he is being treated after suffering a head injury. His condition has been described as critical. Roma issued the following statement on their website: “AS Roma condemns in the strongest possible terms the abhorrent behavior of a small minority of traveling fans who brought shame on the club and the vast majority of Roma’s well-behaved supporters at Anfield after getting involved in clashes with Liverpool supporters before last night’s fixture.” “There is no place for this type of vile behavior in football and the club is now cooperating with Liverpool Football Club, UEFA and the authorities.” “The club’s thoughts and prayers are with the 53-year-old Liverpool fan in hospital and his family at this time.
