Newcastle chief ready to weigh up offers from Spain Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez will reportedly listen to offers from elsewhere before he commits to managing the Magpies next season. According to Spanish news outlet Marca, the Newcastle boss is ready to see what Real Sociedad are willing to offer ahead of the summer as speculation begins to surround his future at St James’ Park. Benitez has done a tremendous job with Newcastle, helping them back to the Premier League and also effectively cementing their position in the division ahead of next season. However, if Marca are to be believed, La Liga outfit Real Sociedad have made appointing Benitez their priority in the summer and are prepared to offer the ex-Liverpool boss a deal. Benitez has often reiterated his commitment to the cause at St James’ Park but a move back to his homeland of Spain is cited as a genuine possibility by the report. Despite this, however, it’s believed that Benitez is planning as normal for next season at Newcastle.

Rafa Benitez will hold talks with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley before committing his future to the club, after they secured their Premier League survival with a win over Arsenal.

Despite reports over the weekend claiming he has already committed to staying on for at least another year, Benitez has made no promises and wants to ensure he is going to get the financial backing he needs to keep improving the team.

Asked whether he will extend a contract that will have just 12-months left to run in June, Benitez replied:

“If everything is right, it is a good opportunity, but everything has to be right… we have to be sure that, next year, we have the tools to compete at the level we want to compete at.”

That should not detract from the joy sweeping across Tyneside.

A top 10 finish for Rafa and Newcastle would be nothing short of a miracle, with a squad pretty much the same as last season, it would be a fantastic achievement.

Benitez hails striker following Everton defeat .
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has spoken of his happiness with Islam Slimani’s performance against Everton on Monday. The Algerian international has endured a difficult start to life in Newcastle following his January loan move from Leicester but has returned to fitness in recent weeks. Slimani led the line for Newcastle as they were defeated 1-0 by the Toffees at Goodison Park. Theo Walcott’s second-half effort was enough to separate the two sides. Benitez, as quoted by Goal, was quizzed on his feelings about the experienced striker’s display at Everton following the match and spoke of his happiness with the new man’s efforts. “Islam worked hard. The understanding between him and the rest of the team will take some time. In terms of effort, I was happy with him.” Slimani was handed his first start for Newcastle in the game on Monday and will be desperate to string together a run of starts as the 2017/18 campaign draws to a close.
