Can unlikely to make Champions League final

Can unlikely to make Champions League final Emre Can is looking increasingly unlikely to be back to fitness in time to feature against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Final, according to The Telegraph. Can is currently in his native Germany, where on Monday he had a scan on his back injury which he received in the 5-0 win at Anfield against Watford. However, the results of the scan were inconclusive and further tests will be taken as to whether he can return to Melwood and start training again next week. If he were to return to Merseyside, which would be next Monday at the very earliest, he would still have just shy of a fortnight to prove he fit for the Champions League Final. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said in a recent interview (via The Telegraph): “Emre will be assessed on Monday to check how it has improved.” “He has done a lot of things and it feels really good but in the end you always need a doctor to tell you, ‘now it’s fine, now you can go again’. That’s the situation. I think he will have a scan on Monday and then we will know more.” “It would be good news for the final.

Emre Can will travel with the Liverpool squad to their training camp in Marbella. James Milner will also travel to Spain with the Reds vice-captain expected to be given the all clear to train after missing last weekend's 4-0 win over Brighton due to a muscle injury.

Mané a doubt for Brighton game with knock

Mané a doubt for Brighton game with knock Sadio Mané is an injury doubt for Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday. The Senegal international picked up a knock during last week’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and has missed a number of training session this week as a result. With a number of key men out already, uncluding Joel Matip, Emre Can, Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool can ill afford to lose the 19-goal winger now – especially with the Champions League final right around the corner. Liverpool also need a point to ensure they will play Champions League football next season, regardless of how this years final pans out. Asked if Mané would be fit, Klopp detailed his injury, saying; “We will see. It is not the same injury. It’s a fresh problem.” Klopp was also hoping to have Can back in training this week ahead of potentially being available for selection against Real Madrid later this month, but results of his back scan came back inconclusive. Klopp continued; “I cannot and I don’t want to close the door on him.” “Of course it would have been better if he had come back on Monday and said ‘all fine, let’s start’.” “That would have been three weeks (to the final). Now there’s less time but we will see.
