Newcastle already closing in on first summer signing

Newcastle already closing in on first summer signing Martin Dubravka will hold talks with Newcastle United about his future at the club, after completing his loan spell from Sparta Prague. Magpies boss Rafa Benitez signed the Slovakian on loan in the January transfer window with the option to make his stay permanent. Dubravka’s loan spell has included wins over Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal with the player becoming a real fan favourite. The Slovakian international was in the spotlight yet again after he denied Olivier Giroud and Ross Barkley to keep Chelsea at bay. Dubravka’s heroics contributed to a 3-0 win against the former Premier League champions and saw his side finish in the top ten, in their first season back in the top flight. After the win, he told the Chronicle; “Hopefully in the next couple of days we will know more information. Until these moments I will go away and speak with my agent and see, we will discuss what’s going to happen. Hopefully it will be good news soon.” According to the Chronicle, the total price for the 29-year old could end up being around £6million, including his loan fee. Newcastle have first option on Dubravka and he is almost certain to be the first addition to the squad in what should be a busy summer for the Magpies.

Newcastle open talks over deal for PSG stopper

Newcastle open talks over deal for PSG stopper Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with PSG over a potential summer deal for Alphonse Areola. The goalkeeper was wanted by the Magpies last summer but the club failed to close a deal, with Areola remaining with the Ligue 1 giants for the 2017/18 campaign. Newcastle signed Martin Dubravka on loan in the January transfer window to remedy their goalkeeping issues and the experienced shot-stopper has duly delivered. It’s thought that the Magpies want to tie Dubravka down to a permanent deal, however, it seems Areola is once again a target. France Football, as cited by GFFN, claim that PSG will not let Areola go cheaply this summer, though. The winners of Ligue 1 will reportedly demand a sum of €20m from potential suitors if they are to offload their impressive goalkeeper. Areola is still an important player for PSG, but the allure of Premier League football and playing under Rafa Benitez appears to be a tempting prospect for the 25-year-old.

The report claims that he will cost Newcastle a fee in the region of €4m, a bargain considering the inflated fees thrown around in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old made 12 Premier League appearances in the second-half of the season and looks set to start next campaign as the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper.
