The Rams' new stadium will be far and away the most expensive in NFL history, according to Sports Business Journal.

The Inglewood stadium has surpassed the $4 billion price point, a far heftier cost than the $2.3 billion team owner Stan Kroenke proposed in 2016.

Stan Kroenke and his wife had already invested $1.6 billion into the stadium, but rising costs bumped the price tag up to a $4.25 billion. According to SBJ, the Kroenkes asked for a $2.25 billion loan May 4.

So why is this stadium so incredibly expensive? It's designed to be massive and to host a bevy of entertainment spots and restaurants around the stadium, including a 6,000-seat amphitheater. The location is a big factor, too, with access roads and ramps needing to be built. On top of that, Southern California is one of the most expensive property locations in the country.

Shockingly, the $4.25 billion price tag doesn't include the entire complex. Retail space and other commercial developments have not been covered yet, and an NFL Network location is expected to be added. When all is said and done, the complex is expected to cost more than $5 billion.

In comparison, the second-most expensive NFL stadium in the country is MetLife Stadium, which cost $1.7 billion.
