Sofiane Boufal admits he'd be 'interested' in returning to France Southampton attacker Sofiane Boufal would be ‘very interested’ in returning to France this summer, he has confirmed. The Moroccan international sat down and spoke to French TV station SFR Sport and opened up on his plans for the future after being quizzed on the possibility of returning to Ligue 1. Twitter: @sosoboufal19 : “L’#OM m’intéresse donc si le club est intéressé, pourquoi pas signer à l’#OM” #BreakingFoot… (@SFR_Sport) Towards the end of the season, Boufal was exiled from Saints’ first-team training and was excluded from the matchday squads under Mark Hughes. This came after reports of a bust-up between the pair emerged. Boufal’s future at Southampton is looking increasingly unlikely with the transfer window opening in the imminent future. As translated and quoted by the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old told SFR Sport: “It’s true that today a return to France interests me a great deal. A good club in France that plays in Europe, of course, I would be very, very interested in returning. It’s a league I know, a language I know. So it’s true, a return to France.” “L’Olympique de Marseille remains a very big club. This year they’ve made it to the final of the Europa League… of course, L’OM interests me. If they are interested, why not sign for them?” The winger joined Southampton for a then club-record fee worth £16 million in the summer of 2016 after performing incredibly well during his breakthrough season with LOSC Lille. Life has not been easy on the South Coast for Boufal, however, and he has scored four goals in all competitions since his arrival at St Mary’s.

Sofiane Boufal has suffered late heartbreak ahead of the World Cup this summer, with Morocco excluding him from their 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia next month.

Boufal has endured a testing past couple of months having been exiled from Saints’ first-team plans and banished to training with the Under-23 side. This came after a dispute was revealed between him and interim Southampton boss Mark Hughes.

The Southampton attacker was once a prominent feature in the Morocco squad but after a torrid season in England, he has been dropped from international contention.

Southampton interested in Pione Sisto

Southampton interested in Pione Sisto Southampton are looking at a summer swoop for Celta Vigo’s Pione Sisto, according to the Mail Online. The winger is being touted as a replacement for Sofiane Boufal, who looks set to leave St Mary’s this summer following a bust-up with manager Mark Hughes that saw him training with the under 23 side at the end of the season. Sisto has been impressive in La Liga, his five goals and nine assists have helped Celta to mid-table, although interest in him means his future is unlikely to be there. The 23-year-old has been named in Denmark’s provisional World Cup squad and is almost a certainty to go to Russia, with 12 caps to his name so far. It is expected Hughes will remain Saints manager for the forthcoming season, and a move for Sisto would help him freshen up the squad up after a pretty dismal season. There is a £36 million release clause in Sisto’s contract, and whilst Southampton are unlikely to to pay that much, they may want to get in early with to do a deal, because a good World Cup could see him on the radar of other clubs.

Morocco announced their 23-man squad on Thursday with no sign of Boufal, inflicting further damage on the former Lille man’s reputation.

Boufal confirmed earlier on in the week to the French media that he is keen to leave St Mary’s Stadium this summer and it appears as though he is intent on returning to Ligue 1.

The winger is not named in Morocco’s standby list, either, indicating that there is no chance of him jetting off to Russia with his fellow countrymen in June.
