Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has revealed that Newcastle United tried to sign him on loan in January.

Newcastle were on the lookout for a new keeper both last summer and in January, and eventually brought in Martin Dubravka on loan from Sparta Prague to great effect.

Dubravka has subsequently signed a permanent contract at St James’ Park, but Birmingham’s Kuszczak claims he was one of the keepers Newcastle had previously been interested in signing.

But Kuszczak, who was also a target for Derby County, says Birmingham rejected the approach from Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle.

Newcastle were interested in Kuszczak loan deal

Newcastle were interested in Kuszczak loan deal Birmingham City goalkeeper Tomasz Kuzsczak has spoken about a possible loan move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window, which the Blues rejected, as per Goal. The former Manchester United goalkeeper has been told this summer by Garry Monk that he can leave the Second City and look elsewhere, with the new boss preferring David Stockdale to the Pole. The Magpies did end up signing Martin Dubravka, who has impressed and already signed a permanent deal at St James’ Park. But it could’ve been different in Kuszczak had been moved to the North East for the latter half of the season. The 36-year-old goalkeeper said in a recent interview (via Goal): “In the winter transfer window, I had a loan offer from Newcastle, and Derby also approached me. However, Birmingham said that I should stay at the club.” “My contract is still valid for a year, but the situation has changed a little, because after the season I received a green light to be transferred.” “I am waiting for a signal from my representatives. Other managers already know that a transfer option has appeared.” So Kuczszak may have got a move to Newcastle, which would’ve been his first slice of Premier League action since 2012. But Dubravka came in instead and the Toon Army aren’t so displeased with his performances so far.

Premier League side preparing bid for Newcastle striker .
Fulham are stepping up their interest in Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic following their promotion to the top flight. The Mirror claims that the Cottagers are preparing a bid to turn his loan deal into a permanent one. Mitrovic only joined Fulham on loan during the January transfer window but made an instant impact. The Serbian striker would go on to play a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premer League, with a number of inspiring performances. Fulham are hoping to sign both Mitrovic and Matt Targett, who was on loan from Southampton last season. Newcastle are open to the idea of selling the Serbian forward this summer, with the player no longer in the first-team picture under Rafa Benitez. The transfer would also bring in further funds for the Magpies to strengthen their squad during the transfer window, with a new striker on Benitez’s wishlist.
