Arsenal agree fee with Borussia Dortmund over defender deal

Arsenal agree fee with Borussia Dortmund over defender deal Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a deal to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer. The Gunners have been on the lookout for an experienced central defender and according to claims from the Telegraph, the club have agreed a deal worth £16m with Dortmund for Sokratis. Unai Emery has already seen Stephan Lichtsteiner join the club on a free transfer from Juventus and it seems Sokratis will be the second man through the door at the Emirates. The Greek international is being recruited with the view of slotting into the first-team to help remedy Arsenal’s recent defensive woes. Shkodran Mustafi’s considerably unimpressive displays last season along with Laurent Koscielny’s injury troubles appear to have prompted the Gunners to move quickly to land the 29-year-old defender. It’s stated that the deal for Sokratis will not be officially confirmed until the start of next month, but it seems Arsenal have all but secured the defender’s services for a fee of £16m.

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Gunners have reportedly agreed to pay €30m for the Uruguayan, which is €5m more than his release clause. However, the clause could only be triggered if a club agreed to pay the €25m in full, so it appears that Arsenal have paid an excess, which will allow them to pay the fee in instalments.

SM report that although a deal has been struck between the two sides, personal terms are yet to be agreed.

Uruguay’s first game of the World Cup is on Friday so if terms can’t be agreed by then, it’s likely that Arsenal might need to wait for the South American side to be eliminated before they can continue discussions.

Torreira has been linked with moves to Napoli and Liverpool, but it appears that Arsenal are closing on a deal to take him to the Emirates.

Sampdoria confirm Torreira departure .
Sampdoria have confirmed that Lucas Torreira has left the club for a fee of €30m. The owner of Sampdoria, Massimo Ferrero, has confirmed that Torreira has completed a move elsewhere. Arsenal is expected to be his destination, after reports claiming that Arsenal had agreed a deal for the midfielder. Torreira is currently on international duty with Uruguay at the World Cup in Russia, and will likely complete his move after the tournament. As quoted by Calcio Mercato, Ferrero said this: “Torreira’s gone for €30m.” “I bought him from Pescara when no-one believed in him. We gambled on him and won, paying just €3m for him.” Torreira was a star for Sampdoria in the Serie A last season and was named in the Team of the Season.
