Sarri discusses Chelsea move with Dries Mertens

Sarri discusses Chelsea move with Dries Mertens Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has reportedly discussed a possible move to Chelsea with Belgian forward Dries Mertens. The Independent claims that Sarri has spoken to a number of Napoli players about the possibility of following him to London this summer. Mertens is one of many Napoli players who boast a reasonably cheap release clause, which could spark some interest from Chelsea if Sarri does replace Antonio Conte. The Belgium forward, who was so influential in the way Sarri set his Napoli side up, is available for just £28 million. Despite recently turning 31, at under £30 million, he would have to be considered as a bargain transfer. Mertens scored 22 goals in all competitions for Napoli last season and has attracted interest from Barcelona in the past. Sarri is widely expected to replace current head coach Conte after agreeing a three-year contract. However, both Napoli and Chelsea remain in discussions over a settlement fee for the Italian.

Sarri was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli manager in the course of the week and flew into London on Friday to engage in negotiations with the London club over a two- year contract . Chelsea and changing of coaches are like ladies and changing of guys.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich had a seven-hour meeting with Sarri yesterday who left Napoli this week after three years at the Serie A side. Maurizio Sarri has agreed to become Chelsea boss. Abramovich is set offer the 59-year-old a two-year contract and meet the £7million release clause

The report claims that Chelsea remain keen for Sarri to bring defender Elseid Hysaj with him to Stamford Bridge.

David Luiz continues to be linked with a move in the opposite direction. The Brazilian could be used as a bargaining chip to help Chelsea conclude a deal.

The report claims that the Blues are happy to offer David Luiz to Carlo Ancelotti’s side in an attempt to sweeten the deal. Hysaj has a £44 million release clause included in his Napoli contract, but Chelsea hope to negotiate that price through the inclusion of Luiz in the opposite direction. The Brazilian defender fell out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte and his long-term future appears to be away from London following a second spell with the club.
