Jay Rodriguez eager to return to Burnley

Jay Rodriguez eager to return to Burnley West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez wants to return to his former club Burnley this summer, according to a report on the Daily Mail. The Baggies have rejected a £12 million offer from the Clarets for Rodriguez, but it is understood that the forward is eager to return to Turf Moor. The Englishman began his career with Burnley, where his form earned him a £7 million move to Southampton. Rodriguez was one of the most prolific goalscorers in the country five years ago and his form was recognised internationally, with England awarding him with a call-up to the national team squad. However, a long-term injury meant that all his good work was undone and now that he is back to full fitness, he’s eager to continue playing Premier League football. Burnley are also looking to add depth to their squad as they begin their European journey this summer in the Europa League, with Sean Dyche identifying Rodriguez as a key target. The 28-year-old was one of the bright sparks for the Baggies in what was a very disappointing season as he found the net seven times, but it wasn’t enough to save his side from relegation.

Southampton will welcome Burnley on the opening day of the new Premier League season, the club have confirmed.

Following a relegation fight last season, Mark Hughes has been given a favourable opening run of fixtures.

Games against Everton and Leicester follow the Burnley match, before fixtures against Palace, Brighton and Liverpool in September, meaning the Saints face just one of the top six in the opening two months of the campaign.

Hughes will be bracing himself for a tricky Christmas period with games against Arsenal, Huddersfield, West Ham and Manchester City.

Southampton will then make the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on New Years’ Day.

The Saints will be confident about their end-of-season run-in with games against Newcastle, Bournemouth and West Ham before finishing the season at home to Huddersfield.

As with every year, fixtures and kick-off times are all subject to change as and when the relevant games are chosen for broadcasting.
