Celtic set to complete permanent signing of Odsonne Edouard

Celtic set to complete permanent signing of Odsonne Edouard Odsonne Edouard is set to complete a long term move to Celtic after spending last term on loan at the Scottish side, according to Sport Witness. The Scottish champions are looking to sign the player on a permanent basis as they were happy with what they saw last season, where he performed extremely well when given the chance. The deal seems likely to happen given that the players parent club, PSG, are required to sell some players to become compliant with the Financial Fair Play regulations. It’s thought that it would take £7 million to land the 20-year-old, which seems a fair price for a player whose potential is undeniable. The youngster appeared in 29 matches across all competitions for Celtic, last season netting 11 goals in the process and is set to complete a move to Brendan Rodgers’ side in the coming weeks.

Celtic are optimistic that a deal for French striker Odsonne Edouard could be completed imminently, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.

The 16th June is the deadline for Celtic to activate a clause in the striker’s loan deal, with talks ongoing this week which are believed to be going well.

Celtic’s pursuit of the striker has been handed a boost, with UEFA telling PSG they will need to sell over £53 million’s worth of players or face sanctions after their big money deals for Kylian Mbappe and Neymar last Summer.

Goncalo Guedes’ sale to PSG should cover almost half of the money required, however, the French side still need to make up the rest of the shortfall before the end of the month.

Celtic set to pay £10m to sign Odsonne Edouard There seem to be a lot of conflicting reports regarding the fee that Celtic must pay to sign striker Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal but, according to the print version of The Herald, the Scottish champions are set to pay £10m for the Frenchman, and a deal could be done in the very near future. The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for Celtic during his loan spell from Paris Saint Germain and it seems like all parties involved; Celtic, PSG and the player himself, are keen for the loan to become a permanent move. It had been reported that it would cost around £7m for Celtic to keep Edouard, but The Herald report that the amount will be closer to the £10m range. As it stands, Celtic’s record in terms of the highest transfer fee they’ve paid out is £6m, an amount which they forked out twice, on John Hartson and Chris Sutton, respectively. Edouard, if the deal goes though as expected, will leapfrog the two former strikers and become the most expensive player in the history of Celtic Football Club.

Rodgers calls for patience with Celtic's summer business .
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has called for patience regarding the club’s transfer dealings this summer. Speaking to Celtic TV, as quoted by BT Sport, the Northern Irishman delivered an update on his side’s business in the transfer window and insisted that the focus is on “availability and affordability”. Celtic have made just the one permanent signing so far and this came in the form of Odsonne Edouard, who joined the Hoops from PSG after impressing at Celtic Park during a loan spell. Rodgers discussed how the club’s priorities were initially to tie Tom Rogic down to a new deal, as well as secure Edouard’s future at the club. “The key was to get the likes of Tom and Odsonne in. Like always, there are a few areas that we want to be better in and improve. It’s never easy because the team we have is developing very well and I like to develop our own players.” Celtic are keen to recruit new faces, though, but Rodgers was relaxed when discussing the prospect of a difficult window for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. “We have young players developing very well and they will continue to, but we have to be in the market to bring the best possible players to Celtic but there are two conditions: availability and affordability. We are always on the lookout.” Departures have also been cited by the media in recent times, with Dedryck Boyata linked with a move to Lazio. Rodgers will be confident that his side can enjoy a strong transfer window as they look to retain the Scottish title next season, and it seems he is not fretting about the quiet business thus far.
