Liverpool still keen on Shaqiri deal

Liverpool still keen on Shaqiri deal Liverpool are still interested in Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri, although they have yet to make an official approach for the player, according to the Liverpool Echo. Since the Potters were relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, the 26-year old Switzerland international has been linked with a return to the Premier League. While Everton are Southampton were heavily linked initially, Liverpool are believed to be firmly in the driving seat and have been for some time. Thanks to a relegation release clause in his contract, Shaqiri could leave Stoke for the Reds for just £13.5million, however Jurgen Klopp has yet to give the green light on making a move for the ‘Alpine Messi’. This is in part due to Shaqiri’s World Cup involvement, with his future talks having been shelved while Switzerland were competing, but with Sweden having knocked them out on Tuesday, the former Bayern Munich man should be available for negotiations. All that is left is for the Reds to decide whether they do want to pursue a deal and firm up their interest, or move on to other alternative targets. Shaqiri is now on his holiday and will take his time to make a decision, but did admit he favours a move to the English top-flight. Shaqiri, according to the Echo, had this to say: “At the moment, I can’t say anything. You are going to hear soon on my future.

Stoke are reportedly considering asking Liverpool for a player on loan in return as part of any deal to take Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield.

The Mirror reports that Gary Rowett is still looking to add to his squad this summer and could utilise Liverpool’s interest in the Swiss winger.

Rowett will be in the market for a replacement for Shaqiri, which could see them try and bring in Harry Wilson, who is a target for a wealth of Championship clubs.

The report does not state specifically who Stoke would be looking to land, but you can imagine Wilson is one of the names likely to be discussed.

Other players who look set to leave Liverpool include the likes of Danny Ward, Ben Woodburn and Danny Ings, but it is unlikely the latter would want to drop into the Championship.

Shaqiri is being heavily tipped to make a move to Anfield this summer with Jurgen Klopp keen to add depth to his squad.

Shaqiri admits he's a long 'admirer' of Reds boss Klopp .
Xherdan Shaqiri has expressed his delight at joining Liverpool, after the club activated his £13.5million Stoke release clause on Friday. The Swiss forward became the Reds’ third summer arrival, following the earlier capture of Fabinho and the arrival of Naby Keïta, who the club completed a deal for last summer. Shaqiri has expressed his excitement to work under a man who commands high-intensity football, having admired manager Jurgen Klopp’s style from when he was playing for Bayern Munich against a Klopp led Borussia Dorrmund. Talking to LFC TV, Shaqiri said: “I know the coach from Germany, when he was at Dortmund.” “We played against each other – me with Bayern Munich – and they were always big games.” “That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach. I love his football, how he plays and how he manages a team. I was always an admirer of his so I’m happy to reunite with him.” Shaqiri spent three years in Germany with Bayern, before switching Munich for Milan. Lasting just six months with Internazionale, Shaqiri moved to Stoke, where he has spent the last three years.
