Everton's hopes of signing AC Milan man suffer a blow

Everton's hopes of signing AC Milan man suffer a blow It was reported on Thursday that Everton were closing in on the permanent signing of AC Milan midfielder Andrea Bertolacci. The 27-year-old was believed to be on the verge of a €6 million switch to the Premier League after enjoying a strong season on loan at Serie A outfit Genoa last term. Bertolacci’s tenure at Milan has not been a wholly successful one, with his progress and earlier promise halted and stymied by a succession of injury issues. It had appeared certain that Milan would offload the midfielder this summer, with Everton waiting with open arms. However, according to new reports from Italy, the Serie A giants could now aim to retain Bertolacci’s services for the upcoming season. It’s believed that after further observations and analysis in training sessions, Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has been impressed by Bertolacci and would be keen to keep hold of him for the foreseeable future. Everton are yet to make a single signing this summer, and it seems they have suffered a blow in their hopes of landing Bertolacci from Milan.

Defender signs new long-term deal with Arsenal .
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has signed a new long-term contract with the club, the Daily Mail have confirmed. Chambers’ current deal was due to run out in the summer of 2021, with this extension set to tie down his long-term future in London. New Arsenal manager Unai Emery is said to be a fan of Chambers and sees potential in the defender. The 23-year-old has struggled to make his mark at The Emirates in recent seasons but has shown signs of promise for the future. Chambers spent a season on-loan to Middlesbrough during the 2016/17 campaign, where he impressed in defence despite their relegation back to the Championship. The versatile defender could be set for another loan move for the upcoming season if Emery deems it best for his development. Chambers is yet to fully realise his potential at the club following a big-money move from Southampton at a young age.
