Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi Friday evening, and is scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant operation tomorrow, the Press Trust of India reported citing sources.

Jaitley said yesterday that he was being treated for kidney-related problems and infections he had contracted. He did not elaborate on the ailment, but said he was working from a "controlled environment at home."

He made the announcement on Twitter. Many, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi and MP Shashi Tharoor, tweeted back, wishing him a speedy recovery.

The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been diagnosed with kidney disorder and is most likely to undergo renal transplant this week at the All India Institute of Medical Science ( AIIMS ).

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Arun Jaitley is suffering from a kidney ailment and may have to undergo a possible transplant . Depending on doctors’ advice, he may be admitted to the Cardio-Neuro Tower at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS ) here.

Sources told PTI that all formalities for a donor kidney have been completed.

The news agency said Jaitley will likely be operated on by the nephrologist Dr Sandeep Guleria (from Apollo hospital), the brother of AIIMS director Randeep Guleria.

In September 2014, Jaitley underwent a bariatric surgery to treat weight gain that he suffered because of a long-standing diabetic condition. That surgery was first performed at Max Hospital, but he had to be later shifted to AIIMS because of complications.

He had a heart surgery several years ago.
