Popular Kildare councillor Willie Crowley (56) died from his head injuries three days after he was struck by the car on the evening of December 15, 2015. He had been walking home from his local pub in Newbridge, Co Kildare at the time."Willie was walking home at approximately 8.30pm in the evening, he had been out at meetings during the day and had a pint after work," his wife Claire Doyle said. "He was walking home when he was hit.

Picture: Frank McGrath  A 32-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Dublin grandmother, whose remains were found scattered across the Wicklow mountains.

Kieran Green replied "it was self-defence" after he was charged.

Judge Patricia McNamara remanded Mr Green in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

Mr Green must apply to the High Court for bail on a murder charge.

The accused, with an address at Mountain View Park in Churchtown, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with the murder of Patricia O'Connor.

A 32-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Dublin grandmother. The remains of 61-year-old Patricia O ’ Connor were found scattered in the Wicklow Mountains over the past few days.

The killing allegedly took place at Mountain View Park in Churchtown between May 29 and May 30 last.

Detective Garda David Connolly said Mr Green was arrested at Bray Garda Station and he was later charged at 11.28am this morning by Garda Ross Callaghan.

Gda Connolly said Mr Green was handed a true copy of the charge sheet and he replied "it was self-defence" to the charge after caution.

IN COURT . patricia O ' connor . Giving evidence of the arrest, charge and caution, Detective Garda David Connolly said that Green had said “I acted in self defence ” when charged with the murder .

Ms O'Connor (61) was first reported missing on June 2 but at the time her disappearance was not considered suspicious.

Nine separate human remains were discovered scattered in a 30km area across the Wicklow mountains in the past number of days, including a human head and arms in a plastic bag.

A family initially discovered the torso in a plastic bag near Military Road last Saturday and a major garda investigation was launched.

Defence solicitor Patrick McNiece asked that Mr Green receive medical attention in custody.

The court heard that Mr Green is not working and Judge McNamara assigned Mr McNiece on free legal aid.

The accused, who was wearing a grey top and navy tracksuit bottoms, kept his head bowed and did not address the court during the short hearing.
